Laminate Flooring project of doom!

Thanks guys. The sad part of doing stuff like this is it makes you realize how lousy other parts of your house still are. Door frames next summer maybe?

 

here ya go buddy. pick of the finished product. the stone is very uneven so molding wasn't an option. i didn't think of undercutting the stone and sliding the flooring under it for a seamless look. so i filled the gap with gray caulking and smoothed it out. laid down a tape line first for a straight edge. is it perfect? nope. the gray caulking kind of matches the stone grout lines. there are probably a lot of other options i could have went with but i'm not an expert.

 

here's more of a close up pic. the caulking is down and i'm happy with it. if anyone has a better idea that doesn't involve me pulling up my flooring or removing the caulking i'm all ears. I've found during my house remodel that caulking is my best friend. It makes my white trim work look professional. For you and other guys that have wood baseboards and wood trim that involve coping. Much respect guys. My walls aren't straight at all and my cuts perfect. But caulking is my friend.

Nah man, that looks pretty good. I think our fireplaces are fairly similar and mine is a bit uneven as well. I think we may run a bead of gray silicone along the top of it to seal it off so you don't see white liquid nails when you look down on it. I've been cleaning most of the morning here, and we stoked that we finally can park a car in our garage again for the first time in almost 2 months.

 

Last gaps touched up, last transition fitted, liquid nails around around fireplace concealed, and visible cracks around the bathroom puttied...My wife offically signed off on the project so it is DONE! Now the fun starts and we get to clean, touch up a few wall dings, and move back in!

Hmmm...any ideas why my flooring would suddenly decide to do this in several places? Is laminate that sensitive to temperature change?

So...what now? Does it go back when it warms up or do I have to take out some baseboard and quarter round and do some tapping?

 

If you left a 3/8" gap around the perimeter ( under the base ) it should expand and contract freely on it's own

 

Which I did. So the gaps between planks just happen and open and close?

 

Generally the end joints stay together and each row expands on contracts as one , is it possible that one end of that row is pinched and can't move and the rest of the row has pulled away from it ?

 

That ccould be. The fridge is on the ones in the kitchen. The hall ones are near the hall tree.

 

It would make sense that one end of the row is pinched

 

Alright. I'm just going to try not to think about it for now. I'm stressed enough about the bathroom.
