Block Heater Install on a 2.7ci

Have an '07 4x4 Access Cab 2.7/5spd. Bought a OEM (Toyota/Canada) for it and just now getting around to doing the install.
Is this a difficult install? Which freeze plug location does it go in? How accessible is the freeze plug? Any words of wisdom before I crawl under and start draining antifreeze?

I was in ND and MT and always liked the stick on heat pads for the bottom of the oil pan. I never liked block heaters. Keep the oil warm. Block heaters only heat on side of the motor and cook your coolant. Get a cold front for half the radiator and a stick on pad heater and you will be fine. Also if the pad goes bad its like 2 minutes to replace it.

 

I want more info on the heat pad if that is cool? It gets pretty cold on sum of those northern mornigs!

I like the plug-in dip-stick. you don't need much heat and this seems to work just fine.

 

hey im in fairbanks i have all three hooked up, oil pan,battery blanket,block heater. It got to -60 last winter. My 4 cyl was starting up nicer then some of friends v8. I had the dealership install they gave me a good deal since it was a new truck just under two hundred for all three hooked up.

Been here since 2000. We actually like it here...central to the whole country and out of the snow! I'll retire here in a couple years when the wife graduates pharmacy school (ULM).

I was there from from 05-08 I liked it, def had a good time it was time to move on. I bought my truck from Yokem over in the auto mall.

 

I hear ya...I'm late in my career, so I am much more content to finish out here. I used to like to move every 4 years or so and see different places (which we did). Enjoy the frozen tundra up there and keep that happy light nearby.

Wish I had a contact here in the fab shop...got a few ideas to run by someone willing to do some "projects". I used to when I got here, but he PCS'd. I've always noticed dudes there with some pretty heavily modded trucks/cars.

 

These pad heaters are an awesome idea, does the size matter any suggestions? I have a 2wd 4banger in Nebraska, it will drop to -10 at night in the winter.

I don't have a pic but I just ran it up to the grill and cable tied it here and there then I tuck the plug out of sight behind the grill when not in use.
