Tow ball gets scratched

I have two balls but they're different sizes. Should I be worried?

 

I am pretty sure that two different sizes are nothing to worry about, hopefully some of the guys/girls who work with others balls for a living can chime in and explain how they handle different sizes

 

Well it wouldn't make much sense to have two balls of the same size would it? Unless you needed different heights, I guess you could have two balls of the same size and have one mounted lower than the other.

I usually only put one ball on the tongue at a time. Sometimes I swap out the bigger one for the smaller one, depends on the receiver.

 

Balls get scratched; it is all part of having them.

 

I never put grease on the tow balls any more because I got sick of having to buy new jeans all the time to get rid of all the grease smudges on the legs.

Maybe I don't tow enough but I have never had a ball or hitch wear out either.

My ball is rusted to hell. Not a piece of chrome left.

 

Might need more use...the number of loads, helps with rust issues.

 

i personally run my balls dry. still fits in the spot either way

 

my unit came with three balls all of different sizes. i throw a little lube on the balls if they start to squeak but otherwise i use them without. no harm done i think

 

I keep my tow ball greased and stored behind the back seat wrapped in a rag.

 

Has anyone ever thought about shaving your ball if it gets scratched?

The more loads you deliver per week while having your ball firmly attached to a nice, wide 2" drop-down tounge, the better off your ball will be in terms of rusting.

 

I like to keep my balls lubed, but i still end up scratching them.

I find that if you do not use your balls they will discolor as well.

 

I was surprised my little balls put up with all the abuse of me running them dry and overloaded all the time. All the different tongues I've had them on, never had an issue delivering a load, only thing I regret is not trying more options out for tongues and mounting positions. Never quite found that perfect match.

 

Ugh my balls always leave smudges on my legs.
