    Don't do it....its a 4.0 V6. It will sound like a modified civic.

I highly doubt that, it sounds a bit extreme...

Judging from the response, I assume you have first-hand experience with this specific mod on the specific vehicle I'm asking about ?

What he ^ said (maybe not as bad as a civic but sure wont sound like that silverado in the picture )

The tacoma 4.0 just doesn't produce a nice exhaust note. All you would do is annoy your neighbors .

Maybe some equal length long tubes would help ? Otherwise I wouldnt bother bud .

    Not to be rude, but...

I'm less interested in hearing the nay-sayers give their opinion on how this mod might sound (since they've not provided specific examples of people who tried/did it & were disappointed).

And more interested in the members who have done it (side-exit exhaust), or atleast tried it, on a DCSB Tacoma.

    Thx ;)

You won't find any. There isn't enough room for the exhaust to exit out the side of a DCSB after the door like the Silverado pictured. The muffler (even aftermarket I would assume) stick too far back. It would look and sound like shit coming out from under your back door. You might get away with it if you had a DCLB. Sorry if you take this as rude.

Not at all... In fact, it's exactly the type of response I was hoping for. Thank you.

Explained very well, but to the point. Reasons based on verifiable facts, minus the part in red.

What might look or sound "good" to me might sound or look "like shit" to you...

I still don't think something like this would be hard to accomplish... Nor sound "bad".

That just seems out of place, regardless if it sounds bad or not. Just doesn't look right.

    The problem is john,

Where you have it exiting the truck right there the leaf spring and front shackle will be in your way. For it to work your exhaust would have to hang "below" the leaf spring (assuming you can get a short enough muffler). If you move it forward of the shackle it will be under your rear door and yes this is my opinion but would look awkward.

As I said before if you had a DCLB you "might" have a little more room to work with but that is doubtful.

You could always do what I did on my 2011 and cut it off on the downturn over the rear axle so it wouldn't show at all.
    Just another suggestion.

Then do it what's stopping you , don't come on here looking for approval and then get upset when everyone tells you it's a dumb idea .

I thought about the OP's exhaust option but looking underneath it would take more exhaust system modification than I was willing to pay for and was not sure that I would like the results because with the sb there just isn't enough space to fit a properly sized outlet. Also I have been advised that exhaust gases can cause alloy wheels to corrode so dumping them out in front of the rear wheel is not a good practice.

How about an old school faux lakes pipe styled nerf bar?

Not to sure about this but couldn't there be clearance issue also? I mean getting hung up out on a trail ride. Just my .02 cents.

That's the thing... I ain't lookin for "APPROVAL" or "OPINIONS".

Re-read the 1st post... All I asked was if anyone had done it, or had any info on it (not speculation or opinion).

But I guess you'd actually have to be a professional stenographer (or the likes of) to realize that, eh...?

    * and absolutely nothing is stopping me, except time & the shop to do it in.

Go back and re - read my last post. It won't work out for where you would like to put it. It will hang too low below the suspension. If you choose to not agree with that outcome it is not our issue. I also gave you a viable option. You may not like that option and that is fine. But coming across as crass probably won't get you the answers you are looking for.

Don't have that truck anymore but no extra sound or smells. Just looks clean with no exhaust sticking out the side.

I wasn't talking about you (or your post).

And it doesn't have to exit under the quarter-panel... I'd also consider running it thru the quarter-panel.

    Like so...
