Question on installing a bypass

I know it's a simple three wire connection, but when connecting this to the appropriate wires on the harness, do you just tie the two harness wires and one of the bypass wires together with one connector? Or is there a special three wire connector?

From the looks of that picture you are trying to bypass a parking brake signal. What I did was hook up my head units parking brake signal wire to a grounded toggle switch. All I have to do is wiggle it and it works. And a switch will never be updated out of the firmware.

 

Some aftermarket units don't allow this.

OP- You could use a relay to control it as it was stated earlier. What kind of Head unit is it?

 

How would they not allow it. It would be exactly like hooking it straight to the parking brake wire.

 

yea OP, that does the same as grounding the parking break wire... Please dont tell me you already bought that.

 

Like what this guys said. But I know with my app radio 2 it needs to "feel" the brake on, off, then back on. Thats why I have the toggle switch. It makes the unit happy.

 

Try doing that to some pioneer head units and it will still not work. Some are not integrated into just the parking brake however they also read the speed sensor.

 

My pioneer app radio works with the toggle switch.

This is correct, at least for Pioneer heads, a relay eliminates the need to flip a switch, on, off, back on. YouTube is your friend.

 

true...but with the units that require the VSS wire to be used(like mine), you can usually swap the VSS wire in the harness to another spot and it works.


OP, google your model of radio on how to bypass it. You will find theirs an easy way that doesnt require any parts!

This is just a 20.00 part that automatically makes the head unit think that the parking brake is on, then off, then on, so there is no toggling. This part hooks to the black ground, the green parking brake wire, and the blue and white switch wire.

This is for a Pioneer AVHX3500BHS.

My main concern was connecting the 3 wires. The two harness wires and the bypass wire. Are there special connectors for 3 wires or can you just tie all three wires together with a connector.

This bypass also is good for all firmware updates in the future.

 

You can tie them all together, there is no need for a special connector. Whatever you are using to tie two together, add the third in and you're good to go.

For the others, the "module" bought is essentially a micro-relay and works great with that HU. Just grounding a Pioneer HU does not work, you need a relay or a toggle to get the on-off sequence right. The newer HUs also have to have a new module, since Pioneer added some more circuitry on the video lockout.

 

I just tied all three wires together and capped them. The relay works great and I have had no issues since using it in my truck. No need to any special connectors.

 

On a Pioneer without navigation you have to wire a relay for the parking brake bypass. That is basically what you bought. You can use a toggle like mentioned above on a Pioneer but with a relay you don't have to flip a switch.
