2.7 here and I refuel at 360 miles all the time, but I'm only topping around 17 gallons, meaning I still have 4 gallons left.

4.0? If guys weren't paranoid about the low fuel light, I think we could see a lot of 400 mile V6s.

I guess I'm at the top of the food chain, but yea it's not that far off from the higher numbers people have on here. Back to the workshop with the elves. Maybe pixie dust helps get better MPGs. I'm asking Santa for better MPGS this year.

lmao what a fucking joke seriously if your so fixated on mpg get a car or a 4cyl taco...thats ludicrous to be going to that extent to save on mpg...it'll be funny as hell when you break down in the middle of nowhere and have shit for supplies...hey least you got a few extra mpgs tho :notsure: fuel squeezer...you should take out all the seat cushions and seat covers, and roof liner too...its useless all it does is add weight dude! and the shift knob?? even more weight, just use that shaft it screws on to! carpets?? strip em out!

Like I've told everybody...this is challenging to me and keeps me preoccupied. Also, I have my spare & etc. I haven't removed any "necessary gear". I even have my emergency medical equipment on board, with a window breaker, seatbelt cutter, emergency siren, crank radio, rubber gloves, small flashlight etc. I'm just not over loaded is all.

I had a 4 cyl access cab Taco and sold it for the 6 cyl for better gas mileage...nah...jk...I'm not retarded...I wanted a double cab. I'm just really shocked that these trucks struggle so badly with mileage, that it intrigues me.

Is there any way of making the engine a 3.0 - 3.5 liter instead of a 4.0? I don't think so, but maybe somebody out there has done it. It would probably hurt the engine though I'm thinking.

I 100% agree. You might save like a $1.00 every time you fill up. Try turning on headlights to a car without them and then try turning on headlights to a car with them. The RPM band on the HID moded car doesn't hardly move, which means that the alternator pulley is not tensing up as much (in turn making your engine not work as hard)...

They probably add like 1 mile per tank. Everything helps I guess, but you shouldn't buy these for that reason alone lol. I'm selling them soon, because they cause static on FM, and if you're not paying attention when you turn them on, sometimes only one will turn on. You have to flicker the brights switch to get them to turn on. Anybody know why this is? it happens to both of them...:(

Do you have the 2.7L motor? If so...put a Cherry Bomb Extreme muffler on it...

Absolutely amazing muffler sound from that setup.

I wonder how many people have been waiting for me to find this thread? Lmfao. Let's see, where to start? Hell, I'll take these one at a time. First off, not going to argue about the attempt to get XX MPG. There are ways to improve things. Basically air in and air out are the easiest and biggest gains. Other than that, reducing drag is the next option, but tends to sometimes be more expensive.

Um, wrong. an oil LEAK means that oil is EXITING the engine. Removing the oil cap actually opens up your PCV system and allows the possibility of un-metered air to enter the intake. This air, since it is not measured, is just like a vacuum leak, in that the computer is not able to calculate this extra air. In turn your truck will begin to run slightly lean, and this is the change in the sound of the engine running. So no, an oil leak will NOT have the same effect as a removed oil cap.

The electric motor will be helping out a lot, in a case like this, but the batteries will die quickly without a charge, that would be required to come from either the alternator, or regenerative braking. You would only see a VERY short gain here.

The current requirements for an electric fan will on average draw about 1.0-1.5 hp on the alternator when running. Rather than simply have a thermostatically controlled fan, you should get one that goes by vehicle speed. Once you are above 40 MPH, no electric fan can draw more air through the radiator than that air which is already being forced in by vehicle speed.

Seriously? You are talking less than 4 pound if weight. You can't even calculate out the mileage difference there on that one.

As to the bolded text above, it does not tighten up the belt. The belt does not change. What happens is the electrical load resists the belt's ability to spin the alternator. This causes engine drag, and loss of HP.

I wish I could find it, but there was a youtube video a while back that showed the wind tunnel effects on the Tacoma. Considering the position of the scoop, and remembering the video, the scoop is capable of causing disruption of the airflow, which in turn does affect fuel economy, though miniscule.

Even a large amp system of 1500 watts, would only need a small 500uF capacitor to stabilize the voltage. No need to go any bigger unless you have something else that would cause voltage disruption that is not mentioned.

Only wat to do that is to remove the 4.0 and put something smaller. You can bore out the 4.0 a small amount to get a slightly larger engine, but you can't make it smaller.

    Oh boy this is fun!

Oh boy this is fun! We have 2 prophets of efficiency in the discussion board now. Yay! We will call ourselves disciples. We need 10 more disciples. Of course, just like the actual events from the past, somebody is going to tell Big Oil and betray the team.

Hmm...what if I bought a backup oil filler cap and drilled a hole into my existing one. If it leans out the fuel slightly, then wouldn't having air rushing into the timing chamber improve gas mileage? (assuming there is some type of filter over that hole)?
