So mid beach run, as I was slowly poking my way down the beach, I decided to engage my 4wd, on the fly, and sure enough, right as rain, it clicked on. Once I was through with it, I clicked back over to 2wd, and thought nothing of it.

We went a bit further down and when I tried to engage it again, nothing happened. Prerunner action like a boss. I clicked on my locker and proceeded about my merry way, a little miffed that I couldn't engage my 4wd. As we sat on the ferry, I was playing around with it and I discovered that if I had the selector in either H4 or L4 BEFORE I turn the truck on, it will engage and I will be able to switch freely between the options, provided I don't switch back into 2wd. If I do go back into 2wd, I can't get back into 4wd without turning my truck off.

Even then, when I do, the 4wd indicator light continues to blink.

Maybe I have a tumor and am just imagining the blinking light, or perhaps it is something else. I was thinking that it might be the actuator, as a friend's recently went out, but I am certainly no mechanic.

    Any thoughts?

Its on a 2013 with just over 20k.

When switching from 4 to 2 make sure steering wheel is straight, try to be rolling slowly then put it in N while rolling, if still no go try the same while rolling in R

I tried those but neither worked. :( I remember the days where you had o put it in R (for race mode haha jk) and roll back until the clunk.

I'm gonna blame dennis and his Chinese devil magic.
