Noticed the tank sizes also. But again. I feel the numbers are a reflection of the tank, then the tanks and tires at zero.

 

For those wanting to turn their sliders into an air tank, that's a bad idea. I've come down hard enough on mine that I've got some solid dents. You wouldn't take your home compressor and start beating it with a hammer, would you?

 

Some have done it with no issues...but it is a risk just like having an exposed tank under the bed. I don't think it would be a catastrophic /explosive failure though pending you were not running SUPER high pressures.

How do you like that ARB orange hose? Better then the coiled up yellow stuff you commonly see? Interesting idea on the four way tire fill, would be nice to set it and let it do its thing.

 

The hose has been alright, but it was slower per tire using it than my 4 way, which surprised me. I don't know if the smaller diameter hose is the slow link, that ARB inflator, or possibly the fact that my 4 way has less hose length per tire than using the ARB hose to inflate the tires individually. Could just be a combination of all 3 I guess.

 

Maybe overkill but you could make a 4 way fill and plumb it on the truck with some 1/2" DOT line then just plug in your piece of airline with locking chuck from each fender well.

 

That would be awesome! All the line would be stored on the truck instead of having to roll it up and store it every time. You would only need like four 3 foot pieces to store that you just hook up to the fenders with a coupler and the tire chuck on the other end. haha You could probably use less hose that way as well since you could just run 1 line down the center of the vehicle and tee it at the tires instead of running a long line down each side of the vehicle like I did. Then just put a spot for a gauge near the power switch/shutoff valve of the system.

Only downside, is with mine, someone can pull right up to me and I can use it to air them up. Would be harder to do that with the built in system. Guess they could pull up along side you and air up one side then more to the other side to do the other side. haha

Nice. Thank you for the research. For me, the plan is to run tools also, so the tank is a necessity.

 

And that is where the extra pressure is handy. Still tanks a big tank though usually, but with 200 psi you can get away with a smaller tank than at 90 psi.

 

Ok...did a little backyard testing here. Not accurate by any means but here's some ballpark figures.

Using my garage pancake compressor (1 Gallon tank) I filled it up and turned it off, then let the air pressure equalize from tank to tire for each fill.

1 Gallon @ 130 PSI per "Tank" (No Compressor feeding the tank)

Starting with a 35x12.50R18 Tire @ 15PSI.

5 gallons of air at 200 PSI should have many more "gallons" of air then a 1 gallon at 130psi. If someone wants to do the math to see what our guesstimates equate too.

I don't know if I need to. At 30 psi, the Dual ARB isn't putting out much more air, only about 9.5% more.

The thing that I find interesting is that the Air Zenith claims to put out almost 50% more air at 30 psi and 25% more air at 200 psi than dual 480C's. But on time to fill a 5 gallon tank to 200 psi the 480C's win by 12 seconds. 1 of the 2 companies is fudging numbers somewhere... I'm leaning towards Air Zenith...

Is that Air Zenith a dual compressor setup?

It's been too quiet in here... Just ordered my air zenith gave up trying to mock up possible locations. It'll be easier with the compressor in hand ! After I figure that out I'll decide on tank location. I don't think the tanks worth hiding in the bed unless your really space constrained

 

With the load I have to pack fitting a total of 6 people traveling per outing, space is a premium!

Agree though, With it in hand, it will be much easier to check possible mounting points. Good luck. If you remember, lots of pics.

AirZenith OB2 Compressor
Viair 165/200 PSI Sealed/30A pressure switch
25' 4g power wire

Waiting on my switches, tank, airline and some other stuff before I can figure out how I'm going to do it. The compressor is bigger and heavier than I had imagined so might have to go back to the drawing board on my original mounting plans.

 

Aaron. Compare the specs of that to the 400 series. Looks like that will fit nicely in the same spot mine were mounted in.

Could always just lay on your back, hold the compressor by the motor and see if she fits 'dry' in the spot.

I would remove the cubby hole for visual inspection.

Mine were heavy too.

 

I just got confirmation from AirZenith that upside down/veritical is OK for mounting and it won't effect my warranty. Will try to fit it up there, I'm still hopeful because that's going to be the easiest location but I dunno. Gonna test fit it this weekend when it warms up!
