Toytec lift

I recently bought a 3" toytec spacer lift kit. Will I need the rear shock extenders or is it not really nessecary. Also I live in Georgia and was wondering what is the best place to have it installed. I called my local dealer and they said about $400 w/alignment. Are the dealerships really experienced with lifts. I also checked out 4 wheel parts and they said $330 with out alignment.

 

you dont have to get new shocks or extenders, i drove for a year with stock shocks on mine.... but it will limit your travel a few inches i believe

and i would have 4 wheel pars do it and take it to a sears to have aligned, I think they warranty their alignment

 

You don't need the rear shocks but I would recommend them, especially the rear Bilstein 5100's.

Don't let the dealer install the lift, your just getting ripped off. I would suggest maybe tackling the install yourself. Just read around the suspension forum on TW and read the "Shock Install/Removal" thread.

 

Being that I work at a dealership, I see a lot of people that do their own suspension work and end up bringing their truck in with steering complaints or vibrations. If im thinking of the right kit, that one has the strut spacer and the coil spacer, and to do the coil spacer you have to remove the strut, and compress the coil. So you need a spring compressor. The leaf isnt too bad to install, and you will have a fairly short travel in your shocks. You should be fine with the stock shocks, but if you plan on going any higher, you would need a new set, and brake cable extensions. Hope this helps!

Edit: Either way, make sure you get it aligned.

 

I don't think extended brake cable's are super necessary if your only lifting 3" or less. Anything over 4" requires new extended brake lines.

 

If you read my post I told him if he decides to add more than 3" in the futer he will need them.

Two days ago I paid $200 for front C/O's, rear AAL and shocks installed, then $60 for an alignment at Tire Kingdom (6 months free alignments). 4 Wheel Parts quoted me $400 without an alignment.

 

$400 sounds hella expensive for a spacer lift, even with alignment. Even the coil spacers. take the coilovers off, take them to Pep Boys and have them put them together for $40 or so, then bolt them back on yourself.

 

I just finished doing the spacer lift today, i'm gonna do a thread with pics maybe it will help. I did all the work myself, i just rented the strut compressor at autozone for 50 bucks. part number 27036 i think. then you get your money back when you return it. IT TAKES A WHILE, but you can do it and save your self some money, but probably not time

 

400 Isnt that bad really, a $229 kit, + 2 hours of labor is $389, at hour shop it would be $453 when you add the alignment.

 

Gonna have to agree, the job looks tough, but it's not. I did the one side by myself in 30 min, and I didn't know what I was doing at first.

I decided too install the lift myself after looking at the replys and researching the forum. I also bought some zinc axel shims. How and where do these need to be installed. Also 285/75/16 do I need wheel spacers on stock trd offroad wheels.
