    & FWIW, regardless of all the short comings , flawed theories, try & try again the OP does, I DO applaud the willingness of trying something that started with an idea, R&D is almost always about fails & tiny successes, as long as you continue to learn in a positive/forward manner, sooner or later if you learn from the pain of failure, you're probably going to nail it (in the good way) just my opinion , whatever..;)

    How about getting it done on CAD or something, its the 21st century.
    Although, I agree with you on being a DIY guy, I have trouble following your logic on how the lower control arm doesn't have endure as much stress... To me its a simple statics problem, and I am simply a Mechanical engineer in process, not a fab shop guy. To me, the truck's weight under any circumstances, exert just as much, if not the most amount of force or stress on the lower control arms.
    Not to mention the bending moment on the lower control arms..., I feel like the upper control arm would be under considerably less stress..
