temp :low/hi i was using low most (it was square tube, left over rack material.
speed: trying different things, between 3 and 6
angle: yes, i have to be able to see
movement: pushing crescents

ya know, i was getting all butt hurt at myself because the welds looked all smudged...but i was looking at pics online and a lot of them look like that. so hmm

I think honestly i need to maybe step the speed up, and make even bigger crescents. Maybe the tint was a bit dark and i mis judged how big I was making the beads when I was staring at it while welding? it just wasnt dime sized, so i have to have more pronounced movements next time

I was doing loops...but i learned with crescents and like the motion better. its a bit harder to get down cleanly and consistently though

 

Not sure what Konsta has for a welder, but as far as other shop tools we are set. I'd be surprised if he didn't have some kind of press at the shop. I may still tack weld the cams if I have problems, but since I am not LT up front I guess I get less leverage on them or something because mine haven't slipped.

Try pulling. That'll get you the pretty look more then pushing

 

The best welding advice I can give is this; whip, and pause. The curly q's don't mean shit if you aren't getting penetration and are just piling goose shit on cold metal.

Step one: Make a puddle.
Step two: Move half a puddle width and make another puddle.
Step three: Repeat.

When you get good at that then start doing fancy shit.

 

well i know im getting penetration. ive passed that check. so we are moving on to proper continuous bead size and consistency.

 

Who said it had to be continuous? I let off the trigger, get a better rest, and go back to welding probably every half inch of bead (on tubing).

 

sorry. i was pulling tonight. when i get another spool and more metal im going to change direction and try pushing

after drawing about a mile of fake beads on my white board tonight...i like pushing far more. so ill give that a go.

but im still contributing the shitty look of these beads partly to the welder. sorry. it just looks like ass and it never did with a nice gas welder.

 

Yea whipping is how they do arc welding.

i was just practicing on a flat surface. i want it to be continuous...because im practicing. trying different things. i would say the last ones i was doing were about 3-3.5" long. but like i said i think it will be cleaner if i make my shapes a bit bigger

.035 flux core with a battery powered welder I got off of ebay for $240 shipped. You'll figure it out man.

 

let me pick up some anti spatter spray, a wire wheel to clean it with, and some more time with that piece of shit and ill figure it out.

that just means then when i use a good welder i should be that much better...in theory

 

Sounds like your temp is too low and your traveling too fast.

For example, i use .035 wire with mix gas co2/Arg. So for 1/8" material you should be using speed 5 temp 50. I like to stay at 4/40 unless its smaller than 1/8"

 

this is not a 230v

its a 90a gasless

if i turn the temp to max and go slower i would shoot holes in in within 3 seconds
