Here are some shots from my stop-action class I took.

Same here. And yet, I can't stop looking. Turn any of these into a gif and you'll have a way to hypnotize people.

 

I'm just curious how you got those to pour sideways . . .

 

yea..i bet he shot it portrait and the water is actually falling but he rotated it?

 

That's what I figured but the liquid coming off the side of the glass looks funny. Maybe it was poured slowly and it just ran onto the outside. Please, do tell haha

When you're working towards a degree you don't do shit like that. You just make it happen.

 

I'm betting that isn't plain water.

Has Rinse Aid added to the water to give it elasticity. They will sometimes dissolve sugar or syrup in it to thicken the water.

The additives slow the movement.

 

I'm guessing the wine glass was moving (maybe glued to a moving track or something?) and then stopped quickly so that the liquid inside continued to move, splashing out, and the photo was taken before the water started to fall down.
Either way, amazing pictures!

 

Here's an old school trick for you guys. If you have something shiny that will reflect light in a pic you can spray it with spray deodorant to dull it and give it a more matt finish.

i know that nero trigger i was talking about the other day helps with those kind of shots.

 

Would just a very fine water spritz bottle work?

 

I solved it. A Gigantic Fan.

 

That leaves small dots of water that reflect more light. If you're using a flash every drop of water would light up.

ding ding we have a winner. yes the glasses were glued down on a rid that i can pull, then it made the effect of the water moving out, used a pro foto 7a strobe kit to stop the action. exposure was 2 seconds. and its just water, with color dye in it. water all over the floor after. and thats how its done.
