If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
These quotes really pissed me off:

"As an example, Miller said Couch's parents gave no punishment after police ticketed the then-15-year-old when he was found in a parked pickup with a passed out, undressed, 14-year-old girl." (So he's a date-rapist too?!)

"According to police, Couch was going 70 miles-per-hour in his father's Ford F-350 pickup in a 40 mph zone"

"Earlier in the night, police say that several of the passengers were caught on camera stealing two cases of beer from a local Walmart. At the time of the crash, Couch had a blood alcohol content of 0.24, three times the legal limit for an adult (24 times the negligible amount allowed for a minor), and also had traces of Valium in his system, according to police."

"In court they said that when Ethan started driving, he was going really fast and all the others in the back were telling him to slow down,' claimed the teen. 'So to show off, he swerved into the wrong side of the road and started going even faster. A truck was coming in the other direction and at the very last minute he swerved back onto the right side, but he went too far and mounted the curb. That’s when he hit the other car."

Dui convictions are lenient everywhere, i see 99% of them go to plea deals where im at. I saw i guy with 7 prior dui's get a deal that had him out on time served. This is the same state that airs radio and tv ads about how hard they are on dui offenders.

Essentially in OPs subject case the legal limit is .00 and it didn't stop him from breaking several laws. The problem is the courts being driven by laws written to excuse certain perpetrators.

Perfect example is correct. Already has 7 DUI CONVICTIONS and is still free. The laws need to tighten up so courts don't have the flexibility to allow people to walk free when they fuck up.

perfect example why a motor vehicle should be considered a weapon (when the driver is found to be negligent, and especially when drugs/alcohol is involved)

you can use a car part to kill someone (intentionally or not) and go to prison. but use the whole automobile...while it is under power...under reckless operation...by an intoxicated driver...and get a slap on the wrist.

    just a thought..............................................

Well if you ram someone with a car, it's assault with a deadly weapon I think?

by no means am i defending this kid or driving while drinking period. But...the federal govt puts a ban on tobacco from tv, radio, nascar etc...it is always condemmed and politcally incorrect to smoke but alcohol is alive and well on tv, radio, nascar. I just don't get it....Even selling beer and wine at a gas station is hypocritcal.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Makes my sick, there are many great things about this state/country and many not so great, but nothing has ever made me say I'm not proud of who I am and where I'm from... until this. I cannot believe under any defense that this kid would get off, much less the defense of, "he has never learned right from wrong because his parents never punished him"!

Wake the fuck up Texas/America! How that defense ever actually worked is beyond me, but if it worked once it will certainly work again. The society that we live in and kids grow up in now, there are no consequences for your actions, this is on the higher end of the scale, but it starts at the little things.

Where this country is and has been heading is truly scary, scary to know I try and raise my kids right, but they will be living in a society that allows this scum to get off easy.

16-year-old Ethan Couch got probation after a psychologist testified he had "affluenza" — meaning he thought he was immune from punishment because he was rich.

    I'm speechless...

The notion of Accountability has been lost for a while. I see it more and more everyday. This bullshit validates that argument. Its becoming okay to feel entitled and its okay to feel like you can do whatever you want without repercussion. As a society and as a culture, it is what we deem acceptable. This proves it.

That "sentence" pretty much affirmed that to be true.
