Why do you think they changed the amount of numbers you have to pick now. The money will collect more interest in the bank, more money for the gov. You pay Federal and State taxes on you wages and you give them more. Just a small way of getting a big return for the feds and state. Just another way of taxing some people who think they are going to win. Good Luck.

Took 20something tries to get to yesterday's number. I think there were a couple of peeps who said if no one won yesterday, it might get close to that.

They made it harder to hit a couple of months ago when they changed the number of white balls from 56 to 75 and reduced the gold balls from 46 to 15. Overall decreased your odds of winning the big jackpot while increasing the odds of winning small prizes. Couple in the frenzy over the big jackpots, after all they can advertise the huge jackpot and that's what everyone wants to win, and we'll probably see a billion dollar jackpot one day.

Sounds to me like someone trying to help you SPEND a lot of your money.

I read that last night! Hell of a guy right there. But it did say at the bottom that he planned to discuss it with his children before he made his final decision.

I realize that. I was just trying to point out that even if the jackpot is huge, the FINAL payout is significantly less. Either way, it is still a gamble. People go to Vegas all the time and gamble. You take a chance, knowing that your odds of winning are almost nil. Either way, you might make it big. SOMEONE will win it. That is always a fact.

Interesting thought though if you look at it: If someone HAD the initial cash investment they could guarantee to win the big numbers. Odds were 1 in 259 million, because that is the number of possible combinations. So if the tickets are $2 each, you would have to have $518 million. Buy every possible combination. That is 259 million tickets. So if you want to take the chance that YOU are the only winner, once the jackpot goes above $518 million, you can guarantee the win! (Of course the actual payout would still cost you money!)

That being said, anyone willing to gamble $518 million should be beaten!

Yeah , discuss which charities they are going to give the money to

" Crist said he plans to put the money into a family trust fund to be doled out to charities he and his kids pick over the years. "

Sorry about the crappy option list, just figured you guys could pick what described you best.

If I did win I would quit my current job, but would still need something to keep me busy and sane. Maybe have my own hunting tv show or a 24 hours of leMons race team.

He also is a former CEO (retired) and he and his family are well enough off to do that.
[I should have added that doesn't make it any less generous, just afforded him the opportunity to remember his wife in a very beneficial way.]

Actually, most of it is solid advice for managing that sum of money. Remember, here in the states, you will be dealing with the IRS and your state's tax collector. You do not want to fuck up there as the penalties can be quite severe.

Further, as the gentleman in Canada did, you can use trusts to make sure the money goes and does what you want-in the case of donations, a well managed trust allows you to return (hopefully) more than was in the trust to begin with.

I think a lot of people who win substantial sums of money (as in 'should be set for life') screw up because they try to do it themselves. I'm not saying it can't be done but for that amount of money, getting it right before you take delivery can have a more positive impact down the road.
