I feel ya man! I have been in a few situations where having even just 35's would have saved me some trouble. That 1st driveshaft I destroyed would not have happened with 35's it was that close...

That is also why I am going to play the same break stuff, fix, repeat game as you but I', jumping to 36's or 37's depending on what I find.

While I agree with you guys on the 33's to 35's not really being worth the jump on a 1st gen (I say that because 2nd gens seem to break a lot less from 35's), I have to say, either your front locker helped you out a lot, I know I have one, it is amazing how much they can help you, or... you need to try harder trails:burnrubber:

When I go wheel around here I am close to the least capable rig, although that is slowly shifting as I catch up. I am locked front and rear, on 33's with about 3" of lift. I go wheel with SA Jeeps and SAS 4runners and pickups that are usually running 37's or bigger on 6" lifts. When we hit the rocks, I can typically keep up with them, but it usually isn't pretty. I am locked in the front while very few of them are, and that is my saving grace when it comes to keeping up for sure, that and a lot of determination and abuse of the truck...:anonymous: haha

I don't mean to start a fight and I don't want to push people out of their comfort zones and what they want to do with their rigs. I like to try to push mine to the limits. That's why I jump it on 5100's and break shit. If you want to take better care of your rig more power to you. I'm just stating how I see it above.

Different perspectives. From an Expo perspective, 35's on a 1st gen are a bad idea because you put your rig in a spot to start breaking parts commonly and that means more down time on the trail and more storage space lost to parts and tools and money lost to said parts.

From a crawling perspective, every little bit of clearance helps, even if it means breaking parts, but if you are constantly breaking parts then the fun is lost. For rock crawling you have to decide where you want to stand on the line of capability with repairs vs less capable with less repairs. Adam basically just said, that the gain from 35's is much smaller than the increase in repairs and work making it not worth it and Jason agreed. For you, well you will get 35's and can decide for yourself after a year right? haha

Anymore I use the shit out of it. I didn't pay $900 for that thing to just sit there. haha

Oh yeah, I was going to mention the articulation in my post and forgot.

These two pics right here are what helped me convince my wife to let me get the DMZ kit. haha

SOA vs SUA, less body roll through the crack

^ This. I didn't need the front locker. Why turn it on when I walked over everything without it? I used the front one time. Very last major obstacle on Trifecta...and not out of necessity. I watched a few people struggle up it and was frankly just wore out after the 12 hour drive the previous day as well as the entire day on the trail. As for "harder trails"...I chose the group I wanted to wheel with and did those trails :notsure:

    This one:

im gonna agree^ i started out on 265s, then moved to 285s. huge difference in capabilities, without sacrificing reliability. I have no plans to move to 35s... too much work/cutting for the gains. imo 35s plus gears(most likely front locker) takes the reliability out of it.. plus i daily mine everyday to work, groceries, u name it. not saying its not possible to be reliable with 35s, just wont be AS reliable.
plus, i doubt anyone will argue its pretty amazing what these trucks will do with a 3 inch lift and 33s... mine does everything i want it to do, if it gets sketchy or im tearing shit up, i should be there.

    well said^

    that made me lol

Yeah I did that one open/open, definitely wish I had at least one locker because I had to give her the beans to get up.

see that right there is why I want 35s. you said it yourself, 265 to 285, helped a lot. same principle.

i dont think i will make it that much less reliable, i just have to be careful. and if a cv is snapped, oh well. thats the risk you take and the price you pay for trying harder shit

thats just it, u will have to be careful.... where ive gotten on mine and crabbed walked across slick rock for a good amount of time and no harm done.... 35s would be a different story.
i think this is probly THE converstaion this year... cool to hear both sides. cant wait to see the results

Don't get the O'reilly remans. If you get remans, get the Autozone ones. Every autozone reman I've got was actually an OEM.

As for the free replacement...they don't know the difference between OEM and their own remans. Just cut the boots off, take it in, and give them your phone number and it will be replaced.

thanks for the tip! anything specific to tell them when I go in? like have you come across a situation where they void the warranty? Did you say you snapped it in a mall parking lot?

Don't say anything other than please replace under warranty. They don't give a shit. Don't need to make up an elaborate story...save that for when you lie to your parents.

Hmmm, what was that about SOA having more bodyroll through the crack? Don't think so. ;) Must be a 2nd Gen thing. One more reason the first gens are better :) I promise I won't tell your wife that the DMZ kit won't make a difference.
