Yea we have similar laws here in Mississippi (I'd guess most or all states in the US actually). But, two things happen here...people break the law (imagine that) and don't have coverage or the assets required for lack of & insurance companies don't always want to accurately compensate people for their real costs...at least not without some effort from the "victim".

Something similar happened to a family friend. She was driving down a 2 lane highway and passing a semi, he came over into her lane and ground the side of her car off and just kept on going. Not sure how that situation ended up though besides her being okay.

Lol which is why I hate being next to semis in any form of roadway. Or even big-ass vehicles for that matter. You don't know how fatigued the driver is or if they are about to blow a tire or what. Few months ago I was headed home and this guy came into my lane with his rented RV and luckily I had the reflexes to pull out of the way but his and my side-view mirrors collided...only damage out of that was my mirror got flipped in.

Shit is scary, tough to react in those situations, good thing you are all a-okay!

it all happened so fast and they made me go in the ambulance to get looked at. Not like i hopped out and was like PICTURE TIME!

I am sorry for your truck, but this is the funniest thing I have read all day! Thanks OP

The most important part of the ENTIRE thread right there!!

He can get charged right there for failure to render aid, and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Here in the US you are required to have insurance as well. Doesn't mean everyone DOES carry it. I would contact the truck line he drove for and DEMAND that coverage for your repairs be in writing before the driver leaves the country. No guarantee he will return!

    That's a lot of buffing........ a lot

I'd say though getting hit by a semi and walking away in any fashion....is a win.

You say he didn't stop? Bad move...But someone did run him down and stop him? Good move....

So, it was kinda a hit and run, but not....anyway, this way the responsible party will have to foot the bill....

Yeah I have to agree, the best part about the whole story was the fact you had just dropped them off. That's a scary thought to have them in the truck with you. Eek. It's a good thing you walked away with such minor injuries, the situation could have been terriblely worse. Being friends with the sherrifs around my town I've heard many stories involving 18 wheelers where people left the scene in pieces.

Anyways yeah it's a truck man, replaceable. The damage looks pretty sucky but quite possibly fixable. Always sad to see a broken Taco. I hate when my truck gets a micro scratch. Yikes to yours.

Yeah I can't say it was a hit and run so much for the fact you can't feel much in those trucks. But he definitely should have gotten out and returned to make sure you were okay. I think he should be gotten in that part. Talk to your insurance company and get them involved with the company and I think this can be worked out.

In the end what matters is that everyone is okay. Parts of a truck can be replaced, people can't. That's good that you had witnesses and people who chased the driver down. The least he could have done was to come and make sure that you were okay. I'm sure that everything will get worked out since it's going through ICBC(unless the trucker was from other Province).

I know you laughed when you typed this. Here is some information for you. When someone is unconscience their body has a tendency to relax. Either the person will pee or crap themselves(not joking). So for some of you who are worried about wearing clean under wear if something bad happens, it's going to get dirty anyways.

I live in a Province where there isn't a day that goes by that I don't see a semi. Back in 2011, just after I bought my 11' Tacoma. I was driving north of Edmonton, AB. It was fall, no snow on the ground what's so ever. I was going into a dual turning lane unto the next highway. A semi driver with two 53' trailers decided not to take the fast lane he should have went into, he wanted to come into my lane. Well he just moved over, no signals, nothing. I was between both of the trailers. I don't think he noticed me. He pushed me into the shoulder and I sped up the shoulder honking. I don't think the prick seen me. I came out on the passenger side and pulled in front of him. He didn't even know I was there. So I guess there was something more important that drivers need to be doing this paying attention to the road. Morons!

Not everywhere man! No insurance is required in NH if you own your vehicle outright. We are a no fault state, your insurance covers your rig even if it's someone else fault. Not sure but I believe Florida is the same?

I thought you still had to carry coverage in a no fault state. If you run off the road and take out something other than a motor vehicle like a fence you would still be liable for those damages. We have to show proof of insurance to register or renew your plates here but people will go to the buy by the month insurance company to show proof then not pay again until next time the plates are due.

Nope. Not in NH (that's where I grew up). Just don't get pulled over in VT or MA...

It's against the law here too. About 40% of the drivers in my state ignore it. Including the one with the fake ID who totaled my wife's CR-V.

    I'm not bitter

some of those semi-drivers think they own the road because they have to drive an un-synched 18 spd or whatever. pisses me off. jobs not that difficult. they often change lanes without giving a care.

guy is at a red light a few cars back from limit line. he is taking up half of center lane and half of left-turn lane with blinker showing he wants to turn right. I want to turn left and notice the lane is empty in front of his blockage so I cruise up there so I can trigger my left-turn light. he gets green before me and as he passes me, shouts something angry and swings out even further to make sure every rivet on his trailer went to dominating the pass. mirror on my previous chevy. fucker was coming from 2 1/2 lanes and turning into 2 open lanes and STILL had to swing out? I watched his trailer tires clear the curb on the right by a solid 5 ft.

im sorry but I hear stories like yours and I just get really heated about guys not doing a good job fucking sitting for a living. im not saying all truckers suck, because there are plenty if not more good ones that are really conscientious and responsible with the weight they pull. but those few. . . . . . GAH!

He told the cop he wasn't from here and unfamiliar with the roads.. makes perfect sense to be swerving into other lanes without signals or hearing me when I laid on my horn.

Icbc, the main insurance company here, was fucking me around so I got the same lawyer another family member got. He got my truck assessed and into the body shop 2 hours after I met with him. He also figures I will get 10-15,000 for injuries for the initial injury claim and loss of wages due to the fact my physical demanding job. It could be worse I suppose.

I'm a project manager for an artificial grass and synthetic putting green company. I'm always straining my neck and back. If I went without a lawyer id be getting the minimal payout of like $2500 but after my follow up visit to my family doctor today he wants me to get into physio right away. The family member who he helped 3 weeks ago, who also got sideswiped, is about to settle for 22,000. This sucks though cause my snowboarding and dirtbiking season is done. I also go to the gym a lot and now they're watching my gym log to make sure I'm not going

Do you mean for my injury claim? The lawyer will get me what he thinks I deserve for the injuries. It's soft tissue damage in the neck and lower back, my girlfriend had the same injuries 2 years ago from someone rear-ending her. She didn't take the offer ICBC tried giving to her because it affected her even a year later. She settled after 2 years and making sure she was better, if i take their initial offer and have issues down the road then its on me. I'm not being greedy, I am just looking out for myself.

OP didn't fk up...the efn Truck Driver did...not that i condone
false insurance claims and i do get your point, but i don't think this is the case here.

I think the OP is entirely within his right to make sure he doesn't have
any lingering injuries that may not be apparent yet.
