Back in the day it used to be advertised that smoking was good for you. Week ago went to this trolley museum, and rode this old trolley. It had an old ad for Kool menthol cigs saying to smoke them when you have a cold to help you feel better! LOL. It was different then, and can see why you could sue for that. Nowadays people should know the causes of smoking. (coming from a smoker)

My sister has been following this case a lot. I was pleased to hear that one of the conditions of the teen's probation is that while he is in the "rehab" center for the next 2 years, his is not allowed contact in any way or form with is parents. Can't write, talk on the phone, nothing. I do not know where she heard this, but I do know my sister, she doesn't take on thing that she hears from the news and treat it as gospel. She researches before she says something.

Go look at the pictures of the burns form that case... Coffee should never be that hot. That case was a talking point for people looking for tort reform cause they could boil it down to "of course its hot" and make the it look silly.

I also just saw that this kid might be charged with additional crimes by the DA stemming from the same case.

Lock me away in this place and I won't have contact with anybody for 2 years.

You say that now, and don't get me wrong, it looks like a nice place to live, but as a 16 year old who has been doted on by his family all his life, to suddenly not being able to talk to them at all for 2 years, that is at least SOME punishment there. Don't get me wrong, I think his ass should be in prison. I just was pointing out that his conditions of probation are not going to be a cake-walk.

I don't disagree with you. He should be locked up and not in someplace like this where he can lie around on a deck with a beautiful view, go horseback riding for therapy, large flat screen TV's to watch. Just my thoughts from what I read about him pitting his parents against each other to get what he wants is that he doesn't care about his parents and wouldn't have a problem with not contacting them. He has it all there already.

Here's a link to save you the google search. It ain't pretty:
    http://harmfuldruginfocenter.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/mcdonalds.jpg

There's a documentary on Netflix that details the case called "Hot Coffee" that I recommend watching, if for nothing else than to see what the media of the time chose to leave out of their reports on the case.

As for this twerp in Texas, I'm not surprised by the verdict at all. I hope the families of the victims can get some closure through civil court.

I'm glad you posted the pic...I questioned if I should and decided not to.

I'm pretty sure reading the history of the coffee at McD, seeing the multitude of law suits & pay outs over the years prior to this poor women's injury, knowing the company policy as it existed and seeing the pics may alter some peoples opinion on what has widely been a story told with a slant (it changed my view after seeing "the rest of the story").

I expect hot coffee to be hot but I sure don't expect 3rd degree burns over 16% of my body. Especially after the company selling it acknowledged the danger of it and voluntarily paid out in many cases prior to her being burnt.

As far as the brat from Texas, there's no amount of money that can compensate for the loss of of those people. Even death by street justice is too good for him & won't bring the lost back.

This..not like when our parents were kids and there was no warning label etc. It's a choice I make as an adult to smoke or not..for the record, 25 yr smoker recently quit here

Never heard about the docu, I'll have to check that out. Do you have a link to it, only b/c I don't do Netflix?

Not doubting your sister, but I'd have a hard time believing that he can't have contact with his parents.
Good for you for quitting. I plan on it.

So what? That's a dream come true for a 16 year old. No parents, and getting pampered in some California facility. Sounds like reward
