Option for adding temp

I searched and didn't see any posts where this was discussed so I decided to share. I wanted to add temp to my truck but didn't want to spend that much extra on the mirror or run the temp sensor wire myself (even though I know a lit of you have said it isn't hard). So if your in a similar situation you might like this idea.

I purchased an indoor/outdoor thermometer from Amazon for $15. I mounted the outdoor sensor inside one of the bed cubby boxes using 3m command strips and the display/indoor sensor in the truck. It looks pretty good in this location. And gives you both outdoor temp as well as temp in the truck. The great thing about the command strips is I can take it off or move it to a new location with no damage.

One thing--In the summer, I would imagine the cubbies can get a bit hotter than it actually is (Heat contained inside) so that might be a bit off, but still great idea!

 

Yeah.. that's true. Maybe stick it behind your front bumper pretty close to where the factory temp sensor is.

 

Yes. I thought about moving the sensor under the bumper Easy enough to do with the command strips. I would recommend getting the command strips made for outdoors if you this route.

I might have time to take one later but there isn't much to see. It's just stuck to the top of the cubby in the corner and it's pretty small so you would never know it was there unless you opened the cubby and felt and looked in it and the top back corner.

So we finally have some sun today and when the vehicle was left out in the sun the outdoor temp did read a little higher (about 3 degrees) than I saw at the bank. I think it does heat up in the cubby so I will be moving it behind the front bumper as it think that will be more accurate. Up until today it has been dead on but we haven't had any sun or heat either to warm up the cubby box.

I use something similar from Walmart to monitor the truck bed temp where my animals ride in the shell. If you have animals in your shell, it's also a good idea to have a portable CO monitor in there as well.
