Unless your taking the long way you wont be passing elko. And you have to pitch it to her about the beautiful views. Its really a awesome palce to just spend a week even if your not wheeling.

If she goes, she probably can't go the whole week since we're planning on another trip in the summer. If she can go, awesome. If not, then I can really play it by ear and come home whenever. Might even stop by Salt Lake City on the way home since I've never been

According to Google Maps, it is 2 minutes faster to go through Elko and SLC from Union City to Moab, than it is to go through Vegas and St. George. Unless you were going some way not mentioned on Google maps or something:notsure:

Thats what I saw too. The way I thought in my brain would be best to go would be to take 50 across from Fernley, but it said it was just slower than 80 too.

Dunno about that. We drove out 50 and back 80 last year. Basically exactly the same amount of time for me...and you know I'm not light on the skinny pedal. :notsure:

Well it was faster for me  I drive to Utah twice a year near salt lake. Maybe it's all the work zones we hit on 80 that makes it longer. I'm really down for anything seeing how we will have trailers 80 might be a better option seeing how there is no gas stations on 50.

50 definitely looks like more of a straight shot, but it says it takes 20-25 minutes longer. I'm guessing the speed limit is 65 instead of 75 on I-80 which is why google prefers 80.

Exactly. haha Taking 50 is about 50 less miles than taking 80 according to google so if you can make the same speed you will make better time.

highway 50 is 70. But every little town you go through you have to slow down. And there isnt much for fuel out there, and what fuel you do find is pretty spendy.

I don't feel so bad about driving 19 hours to moab now.

Trust me, if you haven't been to moab, you haven't lived. So worth any driving distance!
