Some interesting details from the video:

Front skid plate appears to be plastic, though the mounts look beefy enough to take an aftermarket real steel skid.

Front suspension is similar to a Taco 5-lugger's. Note the bayonet-style sway bar link - it may be possible to quickly disconnect the sway bar by removing one of the links. Also note the aluminum spindle and failsafe-oriented lower balljoint. Looks like the crossover exhaust pipe is even more vulnerable than the Taco's.

In the double cab, there is a storage enclosure under the seat cushion, and the seatback folds flat. However, it doesn't appear the seat cushion can tumble forward.

Rear seat USB ports and 12V accessory port

Truck is pre-wired for a missile launcher :p

So not really much different than the tin can one on the tacoma, but probably weighs less.
    Or a dump bed?

Hard to say without seeing what's behind the "skid plate". The tin can skid on the Tacoma can take some weight, because it is backed by two U-section channels.

It doesn't look plastic from this angle.

Looks like stamped metal instead of molded plastic.

If it was steel, the flange wouldn't be bowing down between the attachment bolts. It's a plastic splash shield.

It will be interesting to see what kind of aftermarket support develops for the new Colorado. Could be tricky gussetting the aluminum spindle, for example.

Well at first I thought it looked more like steel, but those little circles look like where excess plastic has been trimmed off from an injection mold.

    You may be right

And it wouldn't have the square reinforcement at the mounting bolt.

This thing looks really big to me. I suppose size is hard to tell by the pictures. Is it roughly Dakota sized?

When it first came out, I loved the look of it. However, the more I see, the less I like it. It looks to me like it will just be another typical cheap plastic Chevy/GMC re-badge POS.

Even though I am not in the market for a new truck... If I were, I would still take the Tacoma over this.

I like this new competition though! I feel it can only be good for the Tacoma. I dont know if Ford will bring the "global" Ranger here. Personally, I wouldnt buy one but it seems like a good truck. Also, I am curious if there is a new Ram Dakota in the works.

The Tacoma is a good solid truck. But some of you guys need to stop drinking the Toyota koolaid. The new Colorado looks good and I belive it will be a worthy challenger to the Tacoma. I signed up here because I wanted a mid size pick up and up until now Toyota is the only game in town. I work with a bunch of guys that have late model 4 wheel drive tacomas. Most say they like them but are not crazy about them. Crappy fuel mileage and lack of balls are the two biggest complaints. I drive a 15 year Dodge quad cab 4 wheel drive with 200k miles on it. 4 u joints one radiator and it gets 13/14 miles to the gallon. One buddy with his 2012 sport 4 door 4 wheel drive is getting 16 miles to the gallon. You going to tell me that Toyota cant do better than that? I will keep my truck till the fall of 2015 and drive both the new Colorado and the Tacoma if they upgrade the power train. I dont give a rats ass about bouncing these trucks around offroad. I need a bed for hauling cargo, 4 wheel drive for any and all weather capability and good fuel encon. Whom ever can produce that I will buy it. Brands dont mean a thing to me.

Brands might not be important to you now, but wait until you try to sell that Dodge or buy the new Chevy and see how the re-sale is. I look at so much more than just the physical advantages of buying a Toyota.

Good points. Hate to say it, but your 4x4 Dodge has more than four u-joints.

I think he was saying he's only replaced 4 u-joints and 1 radiator.

Re-reading that you may very well be correct. I read it as he was trying to convey the simplicity of an older truck.:notsure:
