OK I'm going to start something here. You're on a two-lane road, speed limit is 35, you're doing 42 in the right lane, a little man in a huge navigater runs up behind you and rides literally about 4 feet from your bumper. You have your wife with you so you gotta be cool-even though you're burning up inside at the thought that f*#k would put HER in danger---what would YOU do....go:mad:

I usually just slow down (5mph) and pull closer to the shoulder roll down my window and make sign for them to pass. I drive the roads alot due to work and have noticed that drivers in general don't know what the tapping of your break lights mean, so I don't do it anymore I don't want them thinking that I am being an a$$. I have a short fuse and if I keep myself calm things go alot smoother and are cheaper for everyone. Slowly I am trying to grow out of this. If they don't take the hint I will slow down enough for them to pass and follow them to wherever they are headding, if I am not trying to get somewheres.

I agree with you, just slow down and let them pass. If you get pissed all its gonna do is escalate into something I might regret later.

I appreciate the replies thus far. I have to leave now to Sacramento. I'm asking you all this question because I happen to value the wisdom on this forum (yeah I mean it). I'm very serious..as I have an issue with tailgaters that I need to work out. If you would could you keep weighing in-take a minute and ponder my question and when I get home I'm hoping to have a bunch of your feelings on this subject. Then I'll tell you the details on what happened to make me vent like this..I know it's something we all deal with- thak all of you for the help

Younger days .... flip him off.

My advanced age ..... lock in the cruise control at 35, don't make eye contact, and let him stew.

when your downshifting like that if you pop it into neutral first, let go of clutch quickly hit the gas to rev the engine up say to 3500-4500 (depending how fast you goin) you can then shift into second and release the clutch like you would if you were going from 1st to second, better way to down shit and it will help you clutch last longer!

    My thoughts as well.

There are also laws against following too close in most states. Maybe a call on the cell to the State Patrol or Sheriff's office with a description of the offender. If he gets pulled over and asked some questions on his driving habits he'll be even later getting where he's going and it might make him pull his head out in the future.

Hey I'm back- thanks to all of you for the replies. I won't bother you with the details of my encounter unless you want to hear it. I will say though that this is a RAMPANT dilemma for all of us. We all respond or are affected by it in different ways. The concencus is to slow down and let him go.. I did just that because I didn't want the 6500lbs wagonqueen family truckster and his attitude behind us anymore. I did the right thing. It lead to a confrontation. So even doing that didn't matter-we were the random victims of some idiot's bad day. I see it alot with other people too. Everybody's soooo friggin mean now. It's good to talk it out here..I think this forum can help that way Thanks again
