In some other countries they frown BIG TIME on drunk driving, Sweden for example, I believe one DUI and no license for a long time, second offense, you can't ever drive again, can't own a vehicle...they have fewer accidents and fewer death/injuries as a result...

If the USA/States just implemented harder DUI laws it would improve immensely, two convictions (unless a death is involved, then one and done) and you are banned for LIFE...

Too many drinking or drug related accidents in the USA and too many deaths and injuries...

I applaud our (USA's) liberalism, but sometimes hard solutions are needed to curb the mayhem....

I am not a teetotaler, but I don't drink then drive, stopped that many years ago....

And yet many of the same people asking for harsher DUI laws are fully in favor of legalizing pot, and they don't see the conflict.

1 drink and I am done. Every year my friends have a huge party at Christmas and every year my truck and my keys ( minus house key ) stay at my house. One of them picks me up along with a pillow and a blanket or sleep bag. Only time I come home the same night is if someone that hasn't been drinking takes me home. My rule as said before 1 and done. So if I meet you guys out and more than one expect me to ask you for your keys. Just like at one of the meets. I told them straight up. I don't drink. And I especially don't drink and drive. I may be overly cautious idk. But I would rather you be pissed at me or vice versa than myself or you to go out and kill yourself or anyone else. Sorry just isn't worth it in my book.

And as for the making pot legal. Same way except I have zero tolerance on It. If i am in a group and someone tokes up. I'm out. I've made it 30 years without touching that crap didn't need it this far. Won't need it in the future.

Yeah it is a judicial problem but it just sucks cause it takes a regular field guy, like me, almost 3 hours to get all the proper paperwork together where as our DWI units usually knock them out in 45 min to an hour. Lots of paperwork for a simple misdemeanor. And yeah I know its not the guy that has 1 drink at dinner but it is a plague everywhere.

And yeah it is a little rough here and especially since the DOJ is still here and yet we keep have violent incidents. We are as careful as we can be and a lot of it depends on who you work with. Hippy where do you live? Didn't realize our car wash dude made national news. Or where did you hear it?

But I digress................OP sorry about your truck. Hopefully they make it right for you.

    This.

I've witnessed firsthand 2 accidents where alcohol was the factor and don't think that passing a unreasonable law will help fix it. The last one I witnessed was an Illegal Immigrant behind the wheel. He obviously had no problem breaking immigration laws, and I don't believe stronger drinking and driving laws would have stopped him.

More DUI laws might help but there are plenty of people out there driving without licenses at all. Illegal immigrants, people who no longer can legally get a license because they've had so many DUI's, people who just plain failed their driver's test, etc. They are all out there driving on the roads with us and more laws won't stop it entirely.

Dude. My condolences....Taco down....I hope you pursue this to the fullest extent of the law! Charge every law against these assholes drunk driving.
No excuse in the world to drink and drive now days. I'm thankful you or your loved ones weren't hurt, which is usually the case with drunk drivers. Good luck brother. Merry Christmas, count your blessing.

    Wow!

These type of crashes are what I put back together for fun. all my trucks look similar to that when I buy them. Some people go to the casino to gamle, I buy a wreck.

Anyways, this would be a fun project to make into weekend toy. Any chance the IC would let you buy it back for pennies on the dollar? Of course not all of us have the skill set to tackle something like this.

Someone like me is going to buy this and love putting it back together.

    Later

damn the daytime pics.. sure looks like hell. good thing to be totaled.. good luck on the new taco pick.
Far as drinking concerns.. I never drink and drive. If I go to a bar.. I have no more than 2 bottle of beer..just beer.. I will not do shots or mix drinks. I am a slow drinker. and don't drink much either. For pot smoking.. never touch that shit and wont do either. if the guys wants to start smoking, then I am leaving.

When I've had low ball offers from insurance companies I've always told them to replace my vehicle with an equilevant. It's worked for me in getting a closer to fair deal. You might give it a try if you think you're not getting a fair shake. :notsure:

When I see pictures like this, I wonder whether a slightly stronger bumper structure in front of each tire might be a good idea. Not to stop the damage, but to deflect the vehicle hitting you a little more.

Perhaps, but it would also hurt the survivability rating in an accident.
Crumple zones are designed into our bodies and frames for a reason. How many accidents have you seen where the entire front end is unrecognizable, but the passenger compartment is nearly completely intact and the occupants walked away?
Eliminate the crumple zone, and the impact is transferred directly to the passengers.

Also, in this situation, it may have deflected the incoming vehicle into the cab, increasing the potential for injury or entrapment.
Jamming the wheel up into the firewall is preferable to dying.
