    Hi everyone,
My Tacoma with 57k miles intermittently squeaks when the clutch pedal is released. The squeaking stops when the pedal is depressed. I know there is a TSB for this, however, based on all the info I've read, it seems like the TSB does not address the inherit design flaw that causes the problem. I was wondering if anyone has had their dealership do the TSB work for free while also installing the URD sleeve at once? I want the dealership to do the TSB for free, and I would be willing to pay to have the sleeve installed while they're working on it, but I feel like most dealerships would have qualms about A) installing aftermarket parts B) Doing additional work outside of the TSB guidelines - I'm assuming they would want some kind of payment for doing the install of the non-Toyota part.

Anyone have any experience with this? I know there are a couple threads about this, but my question is not about whether or not I have the issue. I want to hear from others about their experience with the dealer and the URD sleeve.

Ask the dealer mechanic. I'll bet they won't do it, but you never know. Christmas is coming up, if you left a couple benjamins on the seat they would be more inclined to help you out...

I've had the sleeve in for 40K miles or so. No problems. Yes, you need one.

Thanks for the quick response. I had sorta figured they wouldn't do it. I was just thinking since they would be working on the TO bearing, it would make sense to have the sleeve installed at the same time. I guess I'll have the TSB done for free and then head down to my favorite local shop and pay for them to install the URD TO bearing sleeve. Just means more time without my truck

If anyone cares, I did ask the service tech if they would install it while they were doing the TSB. They said yes! My dealership just earned points in my book.

Dropped off the truck this morning after postponing the originally scheduled TSB service to wait for the URD sleeve to arrive. Got a call a few hours later from the service tech stating that he was "overruled" as far as installing the URD TOB sleeve. He said he was able to get a new TO bearing, new release fork, new slave cylinder, and I can't remember if he said pilot shaft bearing or input shaft bearing, to be covered under the warranty/TSB. I might have missed a few. Does anyone know if this will remedy the problem permanently?

Probably not, but it will buy you some more miles. Next time it starts acting up get the URD goodies installed, but you should get 15-20K out of the new stuff, maybe more.

The TSB being followed for your truck updates it to the "new design" that was introduced in 2011, which changes the geometry of the release fork etc, to reduce the side load of the release bearing against the quill shaft, in turn reducing the wear on the aluminum quill shaft. I have yet to have heard of a 2012+ with the TOB chirping issue, so I think it has a good chance of working for you.

I guess I'll just sit on the URD/Tranquil sleeve kit. I'd rather not have to install it.

I hope this is true. You'd think they would have figured it out. How common is this issue with manual transmissions? It seems like there are a lot of cars (other than Toyota and AISIN) with this problem.

Mine just started doing this maybe a month or two ago. I have about 53K on my truck now. Is it only a noise issue, or will it turn into a more serious problem?

From what I understand, it will become progressively worse. You're under 60k miles so I would get it repaired by your dealership under warranty.

Ive had this done twice now under warranty. Once at 50 or60ish.....again at 80ish. I have 95 now so im almost waiting for it to return. Although I know the first time they skimped and just replaced the TOB but on the second I know they did the full TSB with new fork etc. I hope its the new design that the 2012s and up have. Pretty sure it was the most updated version of the TSB. I'll be over 100k on my truck when/if it comes back so I will def go with the URD sleeve.

I asked the dealer when I went in and it was a quick NO WAY. Wouldn't even consider it. Having the open the tranny twice to rectify one problem seems counter productive but the dealership wont install the aftermarket parts and stand by the work(not that they will past warranty either).
