    There's really nothing wrong with a 1/4 wave length steel whip. It's one of the best performing antennas you can get...as long as you're prepared to deal the problems they present. As I mentioned in the other thread, they are a PITA to properly mount and tune. There's a lot more mounting options for other types of antennas, and those antennas are easier to tune.

    The pic that Jim posted is a good example. It's in the recommended position, though, personally, I'd like to have a little more antenna sticking up above the roof line. Here's my 2' Firestik set up...

    ^ I would of liked to have more above the roof but clearance became an issue with garages and trees. But 6 in one hand half dozen in the other. Still works pretty good.

    Ayup. I have to take my antenna off to get it under the carport for maintenance. Likewise I'd probably have to remove it if I planned to enter a parking garage. I may end up having to reinforce my roof because of dragging the antenna through low hanging branches, but as a former aircraft sheetmetal tech, I have the skills to do that. But I've accepted those limitations to give myself the best chance I can to get out as far as possible.

    Luckily, Firestiks are top loaded antennas so even if they don't clear the roof line by much, they'll still probably do better than a base or center loaded antenna.

    I'm interested to see what you guys are getting for SWR. With my luck, probably not too much worse than I'm getting, lol.

    well thanks for the help with this guys, after this whole CB ordeal thing, I think I may just stay off here until Citrus. I feel that Im just making things way too difficult than they really are

    One of our puppy people from last summer is a Dr. at the cancer center for kids down in lake Nona. I asked him how ruff the job is. He said he knows some cant be saved so just make the passing EZ. The ones that have a chance They work they're ass off on.. There is no way I could live his life for all the $$ in Texas.

    I did two weeks in a children's only floor when I first became a nurse and I know that for a fact. It's crazy but that's where I hope to work when I get enough experience.

    I know a guy who was a medic in viet nam .. his job was to stuff cotton and gauze in the dead so the embalming fluid did not run out... At the VFW ,After a few drinks I have to get away from him his story's will give you chills:(

    Oh wow that's a heck of a job. I mean I've lost my sensitivity to a lot of things but wow....I have stories that'll freak ya out too hehe I had a lady bring a baby to the ER once cause she "thought" he wasn't breathing, and I've never run so fast in my life. Remind me to tell that story sometime

    I hate hate hate pedi codes cause it's always a freaking mess. We had one happen here not too long ago and we didn't have an airway....one of the respiratory techs stopped incubating and walked out. I think he quit the next day.

    I guess to brighten things up, this is what I saw drivin to work, awesome sunset, I need to take a picture in the cab one day to show you guys the view from the tower

    been thinkin about where to mount my antenna at in the bed, and I came up with this idea, dont know if it would actually be viable. Beware of my mad artistic skills. Red square is the spot for the mounting bracket, the black line is the antenna upright, and the gray line is for the folding adapter for the antenna, so I can fold it down when not in use so I can use my bed cover if need be

    Just make sure there's metal behind that plastic and your mount has a good ground once it's installed or your antenna won't work...unless you got a zero ground plane setup, that is. :)
