So I went from a 235 to a 31" tire, and now my speedo is off a little. When I'm doing 45, I'm actually doing about 50. My question is I know I can swap the speedo gear on the tranny, but can anybody tell me A)where the gear is located on the prerunner transmission, and B)what my old gear will probably be and the what new one should I get? Also is this something I can just pick up at Autozone, or would I have to go through the dealer?

My stock speedo gear was a 31 tooth. I suspect that is standard for the v6/auto with the B03A diffs. As far as I know, these gears are a dealer only item.

Mine was located on my tcase, I have no idea where your's is. Have you looked on the end of the trans, near the output shaft?

Thank you. I heard that they have quite a few options for a speedo gear and I won't know till I pull it. I just want my speedo working correctly and my tranny to shift right. I did look on the end of the transmission today and there were 2 things I thought it could be

I think I'm gonna go to my local dealer and see if a tech can point it out, then I'll get my new gear from parts

If you have the A340E Transmission it should be on the drivers side back of the transmission just above the transmission mount. I replaced mine when I did the 4wd swap you an find the gears online think I used toyotapartszone.com

Thank you! This is one of the plugs I thought it was. I'm going to the dealer tomorow to get the gears. Any way to know what I would need? It was dead on with 235 tires, and now with 31s when it says 45, I'm doing 50

If I remember right it was 5% per tooth. I swapped mine out after a regear to 4.56 and 33" tires on my 1st gen 4wd.

Ok. Tire calculater says it was a 7.2% increase in size. I'm taking a ride to the dealer tomorow so I'm sure they can help

Check speed on speedo vs GPS at 2 or 3 speeds. Then figure out the % off you are. It won't be linear in mph but it will be a constant %. I will check what # tooth gear I have in the garage and let you know which way to go. If I remember correctly I was 13% fast and it took a 31 tooth gear to correct. Gonna double check, but I believe the original I had was 28 tooth.

Stock gears vary depending on transmission type and gear ratio. So you will want to just pull your gear and count teeth to verify.

After regearing, mine was reading high, way high. I can't really recall for sure but something like reading 70 mph and the GPS said I was going 55 mph. To correct I had to swap in a gear with more teeth. Stock was 31 tooth, went to the largest available, 33 tooth.

Since your is reading low, you will need to go the opposite direction. Fewer teeth from what you have.

Ok. Now that I know where it is and that need to go down in teeth, how easy is it to pull? Just one bolt and it pulls right out? I'm not gonna lose a whole bunch of tranny fluid am I?
