According to the Odyssey (manufacturer of the Sears DieHard Platinum), Battery Technical Manual:

Installing the ODYSSEY battery in any orientation does not affect any performance attribute, except for the PC1800 battery which should be installed right side up. There is also no fear of acid spillage. However, inverted installation is not recommended.

Do you or anyone else know if it will fit in a 2014 DC? I am looking to upgrade it since I will be adding significant mods to the vehicle and my experience with OEM is you get about two winters until it is toasted.

    Any insite appreciated.

I would just measure the space you have in there and compare to those of the desired battery.

The Odyssey AGMs can be mounted sideways according to their manufacturer, EnerSys, except for the PC1800 battery. Since the Die Hard Platinum AGMs are rebranded Odyssey, it follows that they can be mounted sideways too.

Not sure that what I have qualifies as a "big battery", but I did mount it in the stock location:

I modified the stock strapdown with a torch and hammer, and washed down all the corroded steel on the fender with baking soda. Just surface corrosion on mine. I think the stock plastic tray is still in there, as well...

    Not a taco, but a 3rd gen....

I put a 31m in mine. CBI followed up with a hold down rather than my Slee adaptation.

Do you have one of those 1" plastic spacers under the battery or does it sit on the stock metal platform?

Edit: Ok I looked up the cbi hold down. It has its own base which I'm guessing uses the stock j-bolt hold down. Does the base need to be welded/bolted down?

I'm just checking to make sure the battery terminals won't sit too high and contact the hood.

Some pics of the Odyssey 31 battery and the Artec cage. I have a piece of 1-5/16" foam sitting on top of the positive terminal which clears the hood without contact. Also there is 2" of clearance from the OEM alternator.
