so I have a 2013 Tacoma and im sure this applies for other vehicles too

    I never understood this

So that half oval arrow button that controls if you want air from inside the vehicle to circulate or if you want the air from the outside to come in.

it boggles my mind, I was driving yesterday and it was cold and raining. I didn't want any air from the outside to come in so I pressed this button. so now that orange light on. after driving a few minutes, it decides to switch on its on and let the air from the outside in and turn the orange switch off, letting air from the outside come in. but I DONT WANT AIR FROM THE OUTSIDE COMING IN.!!! I tried different settings: vent to the head, vent to the legs&windshield, etc. I noticed my old IS300 did the same thing too

you guys will probably give me the most simple explanation and make me feel like a turd but its driving me nuts.

if your vent is set to defrost the windows then it will automatically change the setting to get air from outside.. if you keep it on just your foot or body it will circumvate the air from the inside. atleast that waht happends with me

that was the puzzling thing. I knew it would switch if I had it set to defrost

so I set it to the body/face and it did the same thing....hmmm

It's normal for some reason. If you have the heat on it shuts off after a few minutes. Holding it in for a few seconds will keep it on longer. The only way to get it to stay on is to put on max ac.

There's other threads on here that explain it better.

This really helps me...the function of the recirculate button on my '13 DCLB had been driving me crazy.

Do you need to hold it for 3 seconds everytime you get in the truck?
Even when I hold mine down for 3 seconds, it will eventually reverse itself. I did disconect my battery, and seemed to help for awhile.

As I recall on my 2011, the manual said you have to hold the switch down for five seconds.
