Just installed new Icons.. My question is... If the coilover is supposed to be adjusted with the wheels of the ground, how does one obtain an accurate measurement??

lift the wheels off the ground to get as much pressure off the shocks so you can turn the ring easier. Just count how many times you go around then do that to the other side, or you can measure from the ground to the bottom of the fender so you can take care of the tacoma lean.

It is sort of trail and error. After you adjust them you need to drive it around to make the suspension settle, and then take your measurements.
(5/8" of thread exposure, will yield 1" of lift.) it's approximately a 2 to 1 ratio.
    Adjust accordingly as needed.

and everytime you change the setting you will have to get an alignment, so make sure they are set where you want them.

Just remember to release the set screw that is located in the adjuster ring. 4 complete revolutions of the adjuster ring equals a 1/2" of lift height. I would recommend jacking up the side that you are working on and remove the wheel. Shoot some penetrating oil on the threads of the shock can just to make sure that the ring moves freely. make a chalk mark on the ring so you can easily follow the amount of revolutions. Release the set screw and begin your adjustment with a spanner wrench. If you do not have a spanner wrench you can use anything that fits snugly in the holes of the adjuster ring (drill bit, Phillips screw driver, metal dowel, etc.). If you have any questions please do hesitate to give us a call. Thanks and enjoy the coil-overs.

Good to know! Nice to see you guys here!

You know my C/O's; I have never used the set screw. (Don't want to damage the threads.)
But when I jack up the truck, I use some of those cheap coil compressors from Autozone to compress the coils, and I'm able to spin the collars by hand really easily.

I have never had any issue with the collar spinning on it's own, without the set screw.

Have you guys had problems with the collar spinning, if the set screw isn't dogged down?

No not really. With the pre-load that is on them you should not have an issue. The set screw is there as a fail safe measure.

Sorry to hi-jack but I had a question for the icon rep. I have 3 year DR coilovers and was wondering if I should send them in to get rebuilt. I didn't do any major off-roading with them and they appear to run just fine. What do you think?

As long as they are functioning properly and show no signs of leaking i would keep driving on them. Thanks

How many miles have you put on the coilovers? Any rust yet from the Houston humidity?

Actually, they are about 2.5 years old. Probably have about 25,000 miles on them and there is no sign of rust on them.

Good to know. I have only had my Icon coilovers for about a year but have 20,000 miles on them already. So far so good.

So are you supposed to adjust these with the wheels attached and on the ground? Or jacked up?

Yes you want to adjust them with the wheel off the ground.

Just an FYI, I ran a set for 130,000 miles in 3 1/2 years here in NH with no issues except they developed a squeak in the lower bushings. Replaced the bushings for ten bucks and they were good as new. Great CO's!

Wow, that is reassuring to know. I think Icon should give bb609 some kind of a discount for the good marketing rep.

If you guys are worried about corrosion? Try a product called "T9" spray the C/Os with it. It is the best thing out there at this point. It dries to a wax like finish and doesn't collect dust. It will wipe off easily with a rag.
    Keeps them in perfect condition!
