Alignment and tires are done. No vibes even without the shims. Alignment came out pretty good considering the stock uca. yqepajaj_11608b9119a6ba0ce9563edc805549a2f1717e2c.jpg

Pardon my lack of knowledge here, but what's wrong with an exo-cage like that one?

    ...too much shit to list.
Open tubes like that are weapons in a rollover. No gusseting, triangulation or general thought put into the design. They'll just fold/split and end up impaling the truck and/or people inside the truck. It's a false sense of security. If the goal is just to have a few tubes on the outside to prevent body damage on narrow trails, that's one thing. But given that the tubes are tucked behind the glass and as close to the truck, that doesn't seem like that's the case.

Keep in mind I think in terms of rolling a truck at 40+ mph, not 5. There's nothing holding the front of that exo up but two tubes on the a-pillar..and bent at the hoodline. Given that I see race seats in the truck...I can only assume that there are possibly of harnesses as well. And when (not if) the cage folds, with the occupants in a harness, there's no way for them to move. Pancake city.

    EDIT
This is what I mean about folding due to lack of bracing on the a-frame tubes. Internal cage, but same concept and problem.

And a split tube turned into an impaling object:

So part 1: The trip meter on a Tacoma w/ stock tires is actually correct. Your MPH is off so that when you hit 65MPH on a freeway, you're 2mph under in case you speed up to 67MPH. However, the trip meter is set for whatever stock tires comes on your package from the factory.

Part 2: GPS Calculations are accurate, but only in a straight line down the center divide of a multi-lane highway. Don't tell me you've ever switched lanes or driven in the right lane or the left lane, because the GPS does not account for that either.

Another thing to note is that GPS is accurate to +/-. (Highliy unlikely, but possible) due to:

    satellite orbit shift
    tropospheric effects
    ionospheric effects
    clock errors
    multipath effect
    calculation/rounding errors.

15meters is just under a <1% potential error.

While that accounts for about a mile, #2 accounts for the rest.

Ah, that makes sense. So would it be possible to add a vertical support in-between the two doors in addition to adding support in other areas? I feel like maybe a double cab would not be the best base for an exo-cage because of that long stretch without support.

Dude that's pretty much word for word from my GIS lectures

Saw a really nice black '11 or '12-14 Baja Taco by San Marcos exit in Pittsburg taking a left hand turn tonight. I flashed my highs at him. All these nice lifted and modded taco's lately makes me want to get out and wheel again. It's been so long!

I don't remember what the front end looked like on the Taco which is why I say 11-14 Taco, because I know the Baja thing was a fairly recent model addition to the lineup as of 2011.

I went out wheeling too. I've been posting this picture up everywhere but from one Norcal Taco to all of my fellow locals, Happy Holidays!

Part 1.... I went by the odometer and not the speedo....and yes I drove in as much of a straight line as possible. There was still error. I think what you're referring to by driving down the middle of the road is by using directions. I used discreet GPS, yes my phone, and accuracy was 4m or less. I also used as much distance as possible to minimize error. I understand the effects and errors of GPS, but in this case it is the most accurate. My odometer was in fact off at stock, and even if you threw a large error percentage into the equation, it still wouldn't come close.

I don't believe in using the 'numbers' on tire sizes because its constantly changing the more you wear a tire down, that's why I choose to use GPS for my odometer accuracy check.

All that you say about GPS is true and I do not dispute it, but I know what I found to be true, and made every effort for a true calculation taking into account everything that you stated.

I would disagree with this statement. Speed is calculated using "speed = Distance/Time". A more consistent track will obviously yield a better number but it is in no way dependent on a known position on a highway (unless you're in fleet management).

Speed is also not instant-read. It's a number that is normalized so if you want to compare it to a speedometer, then you'd want to hold your speed according to the speedometer and compare that to the number on your GPS.

Accuracy is within a 1/2mph depending on whose receiver you're using.

If you doubt the accuracy of GPS, just look at what occurred during Desert Storm. A large number of civilian GPS units were shipped to the troops to make up for the lack of military grade hardware. Arguably, Desert Storm is also what got Selective Availability turned off and the Coast Guard off of LORAN. OK, that last bit about the CG and LORAN is BS maybe.
