NUMMI closed because chevy pulled their money out... THe factory was buitl by Chevy and they built pontiac there too. Toyota just happened to use that plant... Its not Toyota's fault....

i have been to the plant it was awesome hundreds of Tacoma's in every color.

Some of you may point the finger at Toyota, but the reality is, NUMMI is a GM plant with GM workers who happen to produce vehicles using the TPS (Toyota Production System) under Toyota guidance.

The UAW as made life less than ideal for Toyota for years. The Corolla is also produced in Canada and Japan and the Taco in Mexico. So in all honesty, there's not much reason for Toyota to hang around. They will be able to focus more money and effort on their own N. American plants.

^True. Matter of fact, I'll most likely be losing my job (my wife too: we work for the same employer) as of 4/1/10. I work for a government contractor and we lost the contract (we apparently did not have the lowest bid). So I'm really looking forward to finally collecting on some of the entitlements that I've paid for others my entire working life. I will certainly have change.

Glad I got my truck when I did. It came from the cali plant. Sucks to hear it's closing.

Wow! This is sad news. My cousin has worked there for most his life...He lives in Sacramento but commutes to the Bay because the pay, benefits and retirement was very good. I'll have to give him a call to see how he's doing and get some more info...

That sucks man. Are you close to retirement or are you going to have to get another job? I hope everything works out for you and your wife.

4500 jobs. And the articles I read said it was started because GM was pulling out. This was annouced a couple of weeks ago. Todays articles suggest that maybe now that GM is out of bankruptcy things might change? I was stoked to find out the 05 I bought this year was manufactured in my home state!

Hey all you "Cali" manufactured truck owners...

Your trucks were manufactured in Baja California (psst... this is Mexico)... The Tacoma plant in Baja California has nothing to do with NUMMI...

The NUMMI plant is in Freemont California.....hence why people say it was made in Cali?

There is a Plant in California USA. NUMMI.

The Baja California plant, is the plant in Mexico. Near Tijuana I believe.

I can see how there could be some confusion.
