Yeah, I already stripped it down to primer/bare metal. Gonna hit it with some rust convertor/encapsulator and then prime/paint it when the weather gets warmer and drier.

And lose 1/4" of ground clearance?

Don't forget to bring the memory card too!

 

ya, i'd rather do that than have to repaint them after every trip. I may just get aluminum if funds allow though. there are a few disadvantages but IDK if i wheel my shit hard enough to the point where alum wouldn't be strong enough

 

I got off work today that's it for this week.... Christmas and New Years on a Wednesday should be outlawed....

That's not the reason though my nephew was at his dad's so it was a group decision not to celebrate till everyone is there.

Yea these were the $50 set from sears on black friday. I've wanted a set forever. Going to make taking the roof top tent off to fit the truck in the garage this weekend soooo much easier and faster.

still going to have to touch them up where you drag yourself over rocks. IDC what you put on the skids, if you drag a heavy truck over a rock the rock is going to gouge the skids. I use krylon dual satin black spray paint on everything. I just wash the skids a little and touch them up when they get scratched real bad. maybe a couple times a year at most. don't need to fully repaint them, just touch up the bad spots.

and yeah, I guess you will, i'd still like bare aluminum ones though. i want to put them on and forget about them till i need them

 

ahh i see the major advantage of aluminum now… i'd still paint them black though

but the rust resistance of alum would be sweet, so would the weight savings from the DD guys like me

 

Even though aluminum doesn't rust, it can still become pitted over time so a protective paint layer would still be beneficial.

It was good other then I had to work. How was yours?

 

it was good, we do everything on Christmas Eve so I got to work on my truck all day yesterday

Yeah, Christmas Day in my house is always crazy.

I am working today and my shocks should be in this afternoon so I am hoping to get them on the truck tomorrow. The only thing I am a little worried about is they are extended length and I am still running stock bump stops.
