Freezing because I have no heat.

I guess my truck decided that winter was a great time to make the heat not work. My cold a/c works just fine but when turned all the way on hot, it only gets luke warm. anyone know where to start on this problem?

 

thermostat would be my 1st suggestion

 

The cable that runs to the valve under the hood that directs the water to the heater exchanger. Make sure the cable is working.

 

Check coolant level, along with the others mentioned above.

Ummm heater core if the valve is opening.

 

I might have to add in that my temp needle in the dash works fine. it warms up just fine and always works properly.

so im checking the temp of all the hoses for the heat, and theyre all hot and seem to be working just fine. the cable works and everything. if it is the heater core, is that hard to replace?

 

Heater cores only go bad if they're leaking or plugged and not letting fluid through.

 

If the hoses going in and out of the heater core are hot then the heater core is likely fine. You say it only makes warm air so the next place to look is the flap in the duct work that the temperture control cable is connected to. That flap changes where the air is coming from and if it is broken or stuck then it will not allow the air to be drawn through the heater core and you won't get hot air.

Sounds exactly like what my 08 is dealing with right now. My rig is at the one of the more reputable dealer around here (if there was such a thing) and the service manager said this will be around $1200. FML

 

Glad I found the letter for my Toyota extended warranty yesterday!!! Just saved me $1200 that they were going to charge! Now, that $$ can be put into a OME kit for the Spring.

 

I have never needed to show proof of my warranty. They just enter my VIN and it comes up. It just ran out so now it's on me. What did they find wrong that cost $1200 to fix?

 

I just bought my used 08 about 4 weeks ago and when I went to different dealer, they entered my VIN into their system but nothing popped up in terms of warranty info. Damn! So I thought I was on the hook for the entire bill. This was for T-SB-0072-09... the HVAC Vent issue. I wasn't getting sh!t for heat through the vents unless I drive 15 minutes and then crank the fan speed up to setting # 4 to feel the slightest warmth from the vents.

The $1200 was (supposedly) mainly for the labor of tearing into the dash to swap out the flapper door. Funny thing is after reading more about this T-SB, I recall reading that the job was supposed to be 4.7 hours of labor so I'm not sure how he got 1200 from 4.7 hours plus a small part. After bringing in my warranty card to the dealer and watching the service guy call Corp Toyota to file a claim, I noticed that the service rep jotted down 4.7 hours on my service sheet. So be wary of how much they will charge you for this service. It shoudn't be 1200 when it is all said and done in my opinion.
