Does anyone know how much value I would lose if I traded in for a new 2014 off road edition.. My truck is in near perfect condition

Why do you want to trade? Don't like the LSD on the Sport?

Depends on how many miles you have but maybe a $4K hit? Hard to say with the Tacoma cause it holds it's value so well.

I had 2003 TRD and the motor started to make noises and it was time to let it go as it had 230K miles.

Bought a 2014 DCLB TRD Sport. Love the truck. At 12 miles added the Toytec complete lift kit, TRD Wheels and BFG tires. At 6K miles now. I have not noticed any of the issues you listed at all.

Here are 2 appointments I wish Toyota would have done 1) On the door there are no little backlights for the door lock and window controls. My Lexus has them and it is really a nice feature. 2) The center glove box is really poorly designed and is just a bucket but is way better than the 03 flip deal.

Honestly I love my truck, and I drove it from San Diego CA all the way Here to New York. I have nothing but good things to say about it except that it let me down when I needed it the most and it has left a sour taste in my mouth.

I was in Southern Ohio on a 5 day whitetail deer rifle hunt on my buddies property right on the Ohio/Kentucky border... to get into his property you have to drive down a steep Hill that has a sharp bend in that is all loose dirt.

On day two, a huge storm rolled through on us and a flash flood ripped through the creek that I had to cross to get back to the truck.it was pouring rain which quickly turned to sleet and snow. I tried to wade accross and instantly was swept underneath the water and slammed against the bottom...anyway to make a long story short it was 30 degrees outside and dropping fast. I finally made it across and we started up the hill towards the main road on the property... at the base of the hill we instantly started having problems in 4Lo getting around the bend and up the hill, the grade becomes steep right at the bend. A e-locker or true limited slip in 4Lo would have been NICE.. I switched it into 4hi hoping that my auto LSD would find some traction....yeah right... I Ended up having to ramble through the brush and into a neighbors property to get back to the highway...

Sorry for the long rant, but when your borderline hypothermia, soaked to the bone, and saw life flash before your eyes the last thing you want is to worry about your tacoma not getting you home safely....

    again sorry for the rant:sorry:

2012 RC and 2013 DCLB no issues noted except for a creaking drivers seat which the dealer has ordered parts for.

2013 Baja w/ 15k on it. No issues, so far so good. Done some minor mods to put it in what the truck did not come with. Have not had to use 4X4 low. Used the crap out of 4X4 high when I was up north and it never let me down.

    Lift installed at 12 Miles. . .

AWESOME! Haha. That's way cool. Would love to see pics.

Did you install the lift or the dealer?

Great truck, I fixed most cabin rattles, mostly from the rear sub, no other issues. I have been all over the anza borrego desert and it ran like a champ.

I had a 2013 DCSB TRD OR. Great truck and no complaints at all other than the brakes being a little oversensitive and the 4.0 not having quite as much power as I would have liked. The reasons I traded it were that the bed/cab configuration was wrong for my needs, I realized I wanted a Tundra more, and I found out they were discontinuing the only Tundra configuration that fit in my garage for the 2014 model year.

Wow. That's a pretty hardcore story. Can't say that I blame you in the least for wanting an Offroad. Just when you think you're out of there cause you made it back to your 4x4 you have so much trouble getting out.

You know though - probably for less than the hit you will take on trade in you could put ARB Air Lockers in the Front and Rear Diffs and be good to go. That would be every bit just as good if not better than what the Offroad offers. If I get a Sport that is what I will be doing.

Sounds like you traded for the right reasons, and just in time too - Thanks for posting.

Your Tundra looks sweet as hell.

I have the 2014 TRD off road. The truck is fine, but not as well built in some regards as my old 97 T100 4x4. The engine is a bit noisy. The gas mileage is about 17 - 18 MPG normal driving. It seems well made but I have minor vibration at idle and minor vibration in drive line. Its not too bad some might not even notice it.

I would have gotten a full size Ford or Chevy, but wanted the smaller size for parking and ease of fit in garage. The resale is really good, so if I get tired of it before the warranty goes out I will get something else.

I absolutely loved the T100. The engine was less powerful but smoother. Gas mileage with the 5 speed was actually better. If it wasn't so old and had 4 doors I would have kept it. I might eventually fall in love with the Tacoma, but right now it's good but not great.

I did get a chance to play with all the 4x4 options with all the ice and snow a few weeks ago in Dallas / Ft. Worth (Father-in-law has a farm). The anti-lock and handling and stability are all good in 4x4. The electronic locking rear diff would get you out of some pretty serious stuff if needed. The auto LSD is better than expected and can go pretty good. So the 4x4 capabilities are really good for most people out of the factory on the off road. The 4x4 capabilities are really good, every day driving just okay.

I'll do some more testing on my farm in Illinois in a week or so and report back. I have some pretty good trails and stuff there.

I do not want to hijack the thread but I drove it home from the dealer and the next day I was installing the lift kit and UCA's with my friend. I had pre-ordered everything and it was here waiting. Took 6 hours

Yeah I always wanted one of those old T100's. I know what you mean about the smaller truck too. My SR5 4x4 has never let me down in the snow and ice up here and I have the stock tires on. Great 4x4's. Let us know how your TRD performs on the farm.

I'm in the market for something with more dry storage space, more power, and better seats. I've just read so many threads with people having the same problems in year model after year model and it concerns me.

I have it narrowed down to a TRD Tacoma or a new 4Runner Trail. While the 4Runner is larger I really like them although, I have yet to test drive one.

The Sport (2009+) has no different 'LSD' than all other Tacomas. Since 2009, every Tacoma has AUTO LSD and TRAC.

Getting an OFF ROAD gains you 2 major traction aids over all other Tacomas (Rear Locking Differential and A-TRAC). That's the point I was hoping you got with my earlier posts... Salesman will hype up a SPORT, but not reveal the facts of the Off Road, from my experience. Now, all Tacomas are great and if you don't need the most traction from the factory, or are going to seriously mod up the truck, no need to get the Off Road TRD.

Yeah been doing a lot of studying on this stuff. I have test driven 2 Offroads and 1 Sport and I gotta say I like the way the Sport feels a lot better. Of course this was on the street. At some point maybe after the truck was paid off I might put on a lift. But I might be willing to do ARB air lockers front and back for the Sport.

Also, I have been checking out the 4Runner Trails quite a bit. They have a lot of the features I like that the Tacoma just doesn't have. I'm trying to figure out just how much I would miss the bed and the 1700 extra lbs of tow rating.

I asked my salesperson if my sport came with a locker and he said "yes". I wish I had a tape recorder

But I should've done my own research and realized he was lying
