The one I posted? The battery part. I mainly want one for long exposures.

 

Don't see why it wouldn't. If it fits your needs go for it and tell us about it. I wanted a screen that would time my long exposures so I didn't have to. If that one does all you need buy it. If you want one in the future that does more then I'd save and buy once.

 

Well I'm not a master with these, but will the one I posted do long exposures? I know it will, but like can it be set on bulb mode to where I press the button and it opens the shutter and it will stay open after I let off the button and close when I press it again?

 

From what I found. All remotes do that in bulb mode.

 

On that one it looks like the cord only plugs into the receiver not the remote.

Yeah that's the same battery mine uses. Had to get it at Radio Shack and it was $12.99.

 

That's what mine does when in bulb mode. It will also focus when half pressed so make sure you focus manually and turn the AF off on the lens before you use the remote.

 

Oh jeez. Well I also considered the other vello that's $42, but it's wired and I don't want to pay an extra $37 just for the wireless one. Idk yet. I just want a wireless one that's under $40 and takes AA or AAA batts. lol. But I'm off to bed so if anyone has anymore suggestions, please feel free to say. I got work in 7 ish hours. Blah. TGTF

 

I tried star stuff the other night. Anyone got any tips for focussing on stars? Hrd to see

 

Use a big lens to get closer. lol

 

I usually use live view and increase the view size to focus (manually). Sucks all the new lenses don't have a hard stop for infinity.

What Ben said. Exposures over about 30 seconds will get star movement in them.

 

Yea I know about star trails and all.

I was doing manual but was a bitch to get the stars in focus. Maybe ill use an FD lens next time and set it to infinity.

 

Just takes practice. I usually take one and check it to make sure it's in focus on the screen before I take the ones I want.

Get a good lens that can focus to infinity. This is why I hate the G series lenses. My 18-135 I'll usually run to the end stop and back it off a tiny click. Stop it down to increase DoF. Otherwise, get a real lens that you can read your distance on.

 

I'm going to start packing my laptop everywhere. They always look like they are in focus on the stupid little screen.

 

My canon 50f/1.8 always looks in focus in the viewfinder where I want it when I get the beep, then I englarge it on the LCD and it's always back focused and I'm like FFFFFFFFF

 

Focus peaking is pretty sweet on the Olympus OM-D EM-1 and the Sony NEX 6 and A7. I know those aren't comparable to a DSLR in every way and no one is going to go switch systems over focusing but I thought some of you may like to look it up. It's pretty nifty for manual focus stuff.

 

Any other recommendations for a remote shutter release?
