I carry Tramontina machetes as they are good quality and cheap. Godspeed Tactical provides the best kydex knife sheaths I've seen.

If you have the spare cash to fork over, ESEE Knives are the way to go. I just cant afford them, so stick with the old faithful - tramontina bolo machete. I've sharpened it to the point I can shave hair off my arm with it. and it only cost around $20....

Any suggestions on a knife under 30 dollars? This will be my first knife and want to start on the cheap side just incase I lose it... Good chance that'll happen

    Also,

    Few of my favorite knives..

    Gerber Skinning with hook (top)
    Kershaw assisted open pocket (middle)
Homemade/family made skinning (bottom) - this meant the most to me growing up and got it after I lost my Dad on Halloween this year. 3 generations of of our family have JLM as our initials

the hatchet was made by my dad as well.

If you want a fixed blade. Sharp out the box, reliable, yet inexpensive.
    Check out MoraKniv http://www.moraofsweden.se/home-1.0.115.2
You can get them cheap on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-Companion-Outdoor-Military-4-1-Inch/dp/B004TNWD40.

SO, since being linked to this thread (thanks alot Beavis :p)

I'm looking up new knives. Wanting to replace my Kershaw (my carry knife) and have it be the new truck knife. Wanting another assisted open or preferably an auto open. small. lightweight. partially serrated. blade style is up in the air still.

have been looking at the Benchmade AFO II, the Gerber 06, and similar. any recommendations or sites to check out?

this is what i carry now

Just got a Kershaw Volt II as a present to myself. Love the opening system on it, had always had Gerber but they changed the FAST opening on them which sucks compared to the older one.
