That is a different value. The calibration mpg/fuel is a way to reconcile the gallons used with the gallons estimated. On your next tank do as described above.

I'm not sure I'm understand what you've calibrated. You should have your tank size set at 21.1.

Then toyota slipped you a non-stardard tank. The rest of the 2nd generation trucks have a 21.1 gallon tank.

I thought you wanted to get your ultragauge reading accurate, but I guess not.

It reads the instantneous, or the Gauge would not stat INSTANTANEOUS. Re-calcing the ratio of total gallons will not change the reading of instantaneous mpg. Go home cuz your brain is drunk.

Never said it would. But now you decide to talk about instantaneous, instead of average for a tank like you started with.

Obviously you're not doing the calibrate mpg/fuel correctly (are you doing it at all) or you wouldn't see the error you do. I tried.

    Your tank is 21.1
All 2nd Gen tanks are 21.1 US Gallons.

Your Ultragauge is not reading the fuel directly, it is reading the injector pulse width and number of times the injector fires.

If the distance calibration is off, the UG will be off.
If the fuel calibration is off, the UG will be off.

    Fill the tank.
    Reset the entire UG.
    Drive the tank down.
    Fill the tank.
Calibrate the UG to match the amount of fuel you put in.
    WRITE DOWN THAT NUMBER.
    Drive the tank down.
    Fill the tank.
Go to the calibrate screen on the UG. The number will be larger than last time.
Take the number you wrote down and ADD THAT to the amount of fuel you just put in. Adjust the UG to display this number.

Continue doing that for 5 or 6 tanks and the UG should be pretty close.

If you calibrate the UG against a GPS, then its speed and odometer display will not match the truck. If you calibrate the UG to the truck's speedometer, then it will not match the odo.
Any difference between the truck's odo and the UG's odo will result in a difference between displayed and manually calculated MPG.

Unless you did all of the above calibrations, your UG is likely 2-4mpg off.
But even calibrated, mine reads a bit low... but if I reset it, then when we switch between summer and winter blend, it goes off again.
I leave it calibrated so it is about 1/2mpg pessimistic, so I can always trust the fuel remaining/distance to empty numbers.

Have a ScanGauge. Can't speak to UltraGauge, but I assume it is similar.
If you are primarily interested in most accurate mpg, do the following :

    1. Zero your trip odometer (either one) at a given mile marker. Drive 50 miles and check both the trip odometer and what your SG says is total miles (or do a reset only the "Current trip function"). For example if SG says 50 miles, you are good. If it says 52 for example, you are off 4%. Follow SG instructions to adjust under the speed/distance calibration instructions. This also shows you how much the truck odometer is off. With new tires mounted and SG odometer adjusted, compared to mile markers my truck odometer was off 3%. Now have 10,000 on the Michelins and need to recheck.

    2. Follow SG instructions for fillup for adjustment of gallons SG calculates used, versus what the pump says. I have found mine to be fairly accurate as long as I haven't changes normal driving, such as from mostly city to mostly highway. Changes in temperature ie summer/winter also affect accuracy.

    3. Do #1 above every 10,000 miles to correct for tire wear, which changes the accuracy of the SG odometer. When I replaced OEM tires with Michelins (even though the same size, diameter, and revolutions per mile) odometer was off due to tire wear. Per Tirerack, both tires are 30.5" diameter, tread depth 12/32", revs per mile of 683. When Michelins were mounted, wear had reduced diameter on the old tires by a full inch to 29.5.

Hand calculation done using SG miles divided by pump gallons.

Following the above, my SG is usually extremely accurate, and matches my hand calculated mpg. Have noticed a difference (3-4%) if I run a tank of E0 instead of E10, and as mentioned a little error on usual mostly city to mostly highway.

Believ it or not my first fuel up using fuely to my 2nd fuel up was 34.6 miles per gallon!!! Lmao 07 lowered regular cab 4 banger. But I was going a short distance back and forth to work only. Entered my 3rd fuel up after moving a fully loaded bed several times driving like hell and speeding for long distances plus tons of traffic ended up with 17mpg for that tank. ;( average so far with 3 fuel ups is 26mpg.

    not a lot
Just got back from a 3000 mile trip on my
    2014 DBSC OR 4X4. 6 speed Manual.

Tire Pres: Fr 32, Rr 34.
    Load: 1 Passenger
luggage and boxes apprx:400 to 500 lbs
one bicycle mounted on a fork mount at rail.

I tried several average cruising speeds (55-60, 60-70 and 70-80)

My best average was 19-20 mpg at 60-70 mph average speed.
18-19 mpg at 55-60 mph average speed
17-18 mpg at 70 -80 mph average speed

cannot account for winds, terrain, temperature etc.

I was mostly easy on the gas pedal, accelerating mostly for safety on merges.

I still have to try city driving , most driving were freeways.
