Do I have to change my brake pads?

I changed them about 6 months ago and turned my rotors due to lack of availability of new rotors. Well of course they are warped now and I now have some new rotors to put on.

Do I need to change the pads if they still have life on them?

the pads should still be good to go............just make sure to do the break in procedure after you get new rotors and you should be fine.

 

Take the pads and rub them on the concrete. This will give you a new surface for the new rotors.

 

What is a break in procedure for pads and rotors? Just sand them down and make sure there clean? Or is it something different?

You really should change them.

New Rotors need to be 'bed in' (broke in). The old pads will have 'wear patterns' in them from the old & warped rotors. You don't want to break-in the new rotors with pads that are worn from warped/old rotors.

I personally would never put old pads on new rotors.

I'm not sure how critical this is for most everyday cars. When we changed rotors/pads on our corvette, we did the bed-in procedure.

 

I would put new brake pads on so it would brake in the rotors evenly.
Also out of curiosity, are you heavy on your brakes when you brake to slow down? Or do you just put a lot of miles on your truck?

 

Neither really. I wanted to change my rotors when I did the pads 6 months ago but no one in town had the smaller rotors for w/o VSC trucks. I eventually had to get Pep Boys to turn them and I think the guy said he made 4 passes on them. I knew they would warp but didnt have a choice at the time.

 

i would change the pads to. better that way. and the stock rotors i think gets warpped alot i heard. going with aftermarket
