Diff lock

Just bought an 09 DC Tacoma about a month ago. It's not 4x4 but it does have the diff lock on it, I was wondering if any of you that also have this on your truck ever had to use it, and if so how did it work?

 

all of the TRD Offroad packages have the diff lock.

I use it when I need extra Traction. In an open diff set up if one tire gets off the ground or have no traction it will spin and the tire that is planted will not spin and have no traction. When the locker is engaged both tires will spin evenly allowing power to both wheels instead of one. Its good to use it before you get into a sticky situation. I use it out in silty washes and mud.

 

Is the 5mph recommended speed really as fast as you can drive with the diff lock, I don't want to drive 60mph with it just wondering if I could go maybe 10 or 15mph with it and not damage anything?

 

You have to be driving 5MPH or less to engage it, but after that you can drive as fast as you like as long as you're on a low traction surface.
