DRL Dumb Question

I believe the older model trucks depends on the model, I had a '07 off road and did not have DTRL the turn signal lights, but my boss had a '08 sport and did have DTRL. I now have a '13 sport and DTRL are selectable on the headlight switch.

 

Yeah , but which lights act as the DTRL when you select them on your 13 ?

 

There are several settings, if you choose DTRL it is the two amber lights next to the grill which also are the turn signals. You can also choose parking lights (think that's what it's called) which does the amber lights on the far outside of the headlights and also turns on the brake lights like your headlights would.

 

Exactly , so if you have DTRL , it uses the turn signals

 

I had dtrl and hated the way they look. I installed a switch to shut them off. I then did a park, corner lamp mod so all 4 amber lights come on with the switch.
If I ever need dtrl again I just throw the switch and unplug the inboard quick connect. Front looks a lot more balanced.

 

That's right, and only the turn signal lights.

 

I usual drive with the headlight stem at the first setting which lights all 4 ambers up front as well as the two rears

 

I usually drive around with just DTRL, and fog light mod think it looks good on dark colored trucks.

I just leave my DTRL's on during the day time. I like them. I can turn them off but it looks cool with them on to me.

 

Because your '05 did not have DRLs.
It was optional starting in '06 or '07, SR5 and above only.

The first position on the stalk turns the corner lights on.
If you walk around to the back of the truck, you'll see the taillights are on as well.

It wasn't until 2012 that Toyota installed the option (on US trucks only) to shut the DRLs off at the stalk. Prior to that, they came on when the parking brake was released and you could not shut them off.

 

Not on the 2nd Gen.

DRLs are the turn signal indicators and nothing but.
They are either installed on the truck or they aren't.
The corner lights are not and never have been DRLs.

 

I was talking in general of what lights did what over the years with stalk position
And the dtrls in combo. Also the combo that others have made over the years to include etc ,etc,etc.
I never was saying corners were dtrls or anything to that statement.
If u miss understood then I'm sorry. I usually splain I self putty ood. But sumtimers ise have moments....

 

I have DTRL's on my 06 and I hate them. How did you install a switch to turn them off?
