Thats where I was going with that one. It's kinda hard to compare the two different systems.

I agree it's a good truck and in fact does need refining. I think the things that are happening to you could be a bit more acceptable in a truck that was at least 6 + years old

Looks really good. Good job on the lift / wheels and tires you picked out. Sure your stoked driving that around. Hard to tell in pic - what UCA is that?

I have none of those issues with my truck. While it was stock and after the lift. We will have to wait and see with the frame rust issue. I do my best the touch up spots where ever I see potential problems tho.
Should've got the off road and converted it to a sport ;)

That's good to hear. I just don't get why some people have no issues and other people have it so bad that it turns into a major fiasco and they end up trading there new truck or getting it bought back by Toyota.

Man your Taco is so sweet. I was checkout out you build thread again recently.

I have been looking at 4runners - And it's all your fault! :D I gotta say I'm really digging them.

You could always convert your Offroad to a Pre Runner. . .

The taxes are lower compared to Seattle? I didn't think they were that low! haha. Yeah I bought my Tacoma at Rodland about 3 years ago. It was a fairly good experience but I have been back in lately and both salesmen I've talked to were real douchey.

Rodland first told me that they send their trucks to Les Schaub for new truck lift installs then the Sales Manager said they do it there. The sales manage also said - Ohh you don't need new UCA's unless you go over a 3" lift - Don't know if I'm buying that.

Anyway - I'm looking at heading to Michaels maybe tomorrow to test drive some 4Runners.

Why did you have Micheals do the install work instead of Rodland????

I gotta tell ya - I really wasn't looking at things like that but that's a pretty good perspective. Point taken.

You know David, from my experience - and this just completely floors me - Salesmen know less about the cars they are selling than anyone on the Planet! It frustrates the hell out of me to go on a lot and I know infinitely more than the salesman about the vehicle I am interested in. And I learned it in an evening of research!

I mean who the heck are these guys? You sell cars for a LIVING and you don't know jack shit about any of them? Glad your story had a happy ending!

    Rock on in your Offroad!

I'm not fully awake or I would have added this to the last post

    :pccoffee:

I thought about waiting for the 2015, the more I delve into researching the 2015, I feel confident it will be a redesign. That being said, who knows what the F any of these retard CEO's think anymore so I can only go with what I think makes sense - which probably means they'll do the opposite.

Ok. . .coffee's kicking in now - If they do a redesign I don't think I would want to buy it until it was out 2 or 3 years - given Toyotas track record on not fixing problems for 8 - 10 years that's being very lenient.

I want Offroad Capabilities for future camping and such + I live in the PNW and it can get Hella Knarly up here weather wise. I know I won't do any hardcore wheeling though.

Ok cool. I'll do that - Rodland is 20 mins from my house and I drive by it everyday on the way to work so I was hoping to buy from Rodland. I had no idea Snoho County was 3% less than King! I thought they were close to the same - thanks for the heads up on that one.

I'm going to drive down to Rodland here in a bit and will ask for Rob - thanks for the recommendation. I had a great experience the 1st time with them but they moved my salesman to finance.

Good to know on the lift! Thanks for the info - that post was full of juice.

Hope you find what your looking for. It can be fun and frustrating at the same time. - I wish Rodland could carry a larger inventory that's for sure

I got a 2005, which was the first Second Gen Tacoma year... It was good enough to stay with Toyota and get a 2010, but the 2005 had a couple a issues that the 2010 did not have (so far):

    1) ABS Brakes sucked big time... would not stop correctly on wet or dirt roads... nearly hit something a few times. Dealer said that was 'normal'. The 2010 brakes perfectly under same conditions (as did my 2001). Brake noise that dealer couldn't correct until new pads went on, a few thousand miles later.

    2) Spiral Cable failure in steering wheel caused air bag warning light to come on, non-warranty covered... but tons of us Tacoma owners had the same issue.

    3) Rear springs too soft... truck bottomed out with any cargo or rear seat passengers when going over speed bumps or other bumps. Dealer said it was 'normal', so I paid to add Ride Rite air bags and Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, problem solved. Later the 'Harsh Ride' TSB came out, but too late for me. The 2010 rear springs are better and the truck doesn't bottom out at all... still 3 leaves, but obviously better metal or ???

Added mine to the above. 09 TRD 6 spd.
    Hard shifts when its cold.
I had the rear end squeak and fixed it with the Toyota kit. Haven't really hauled a heavy load. But at this point I'm expecting the rear to sag.

I'm trying hard to like the Tacoma after a year and half I've had it. I'm pretty underwhelmed. Unless there is a big design change and improvements. I don't think I'll be buying a Toyota again.

OP, I can totally appreciate your dedication to research; I'm as guilty as the next guy with epic spreadsheets and lengthy pro/con lists. Welcome to the paralysis-by-analysis club, you're almost royalty. I somewhat jokingly say this because I know full-well how much it would suck to drop ~$30K on a truck and be unhappy. Honestly after reading all the posts here you'd think some people think their Taco is crap. I don't doubt he legitimacy of the issues raised here and intend no disrespect, but I do wonder how prolific they really are.

So FWIW, I would temper these issues with some regard for the other side of things. Internet forums have a reputation for setting focus on the nagging points of a product. Have you ever seen a "Fuck yeah, my Taco is the best truck ever" thread? Nope, but I might start one now because TO ME my '14 Taco IS better than my previous trucks. BTW, what's Toyota's register a compliment 800-number again?

All I'm saying is we're a squeaky wheel society. It just is what it is. I commend you for your diligence but be mindful there are plenty of perfectly happy Tacoma owners, like me!

Besides, it's only money anyway.... And didn't I tell you a month ago to get the skewp?

I have none of those issues. 2013 TRD OF S/C. Larger tires 265/75/16. 13,000 miles, and Baja suspension installed. Only rust is where I drug the tow hitch across a rock, fixed.
