    Same as the FR-S.

I sat in one at the dealership a few weeks ago. Seat all the way back, and I had maybe 1/4" between my head and the roof.

And I do NOT have a problem with the mirror height in the Tacoma... plenty of headroom and I can drive wearing any of my fedoras.
Wife had one. It was a great car for her. She drove the piss out of it for 4 years, then sold it to her daughter. Kid put another 50k on it before a dumb bitch jaywalked in front of her and wiped out the driver's fender and A-pillar.
My '94 pickup had the same thing.
I think I spent $30 or $40 on the clock module from the dealer.

Wife's got 140k on her '04 says you're wrong. No trips to the dealer since a bad O2 sensor in '05.

    Previa.

    Neighbor had one.

Reliable as hell... and impossible to work on.

Edmunds ranks the Echo as 77 on the top 100 worst cars of all time.

"77. 1999 Toyota Echo: Awkward successor to the mediocre Tercel. Austere in the most plastic of ways, it's such a bucket it should come with a mop. Roxy Edition was just a joke."

    I concur.

The tercel wasn't pretty, but it was a lovable, reliable little thing. My mom had an 82 5 spd. Ended up with over 300k on it. I learned to drive stick in it.
The Echo sucked far worse than any Tercel ever did!

Edit: and proudly enough, the echo is the only toyota on that list
    http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/features/100-worst-cars-of-all-time.html

That's the problem with this thread... Toyota makes pretty damn good vehicles!

It was a strictly utilitarian vehicle and it did exactly what it was designed to do.

It had a tall seating position that put the occupants higher than most other vehicles except for small SUVs like the Rav/CRV/Trakker, so it could actually haul four normally-sized adults in relative comfort.
It wasn't a powerhouse, but it had enough to get out of its own way.
Handling was VASTLY improved with a set of 16" rims and wider rubber.

I hate getting in and out of the Camry and Corolla because of the low roof, and I feel like I'm sitting 6" off the pavement.
The Echo was comfortable for me.

77 of the 100 worst? Given the only drawbacks to the Echo was that it managed to be even LESS sexy than a minivan.
Great fuel economy, decently sized trunk, good headroom for 4 adults... If you closed your eyes it was a great car.

Yup... Not a "lemon" in the bunch.
Only thing they can latch onto as "crappiest" is aesthetics, or lack of performance.

But no serious design issues like many other vehicles from the big-3.

Honestly, I think the worst thing Toyota has going is the frame rust issues on the Tundra and Tacoma.

Toyota has produced a lot of good vehicles but one thing I would say is the new Camry with its fake leather on the sport package. I mean come on Toyota a 30k car should have real leather not pleather.

^Someone at Toyota market research probably called it a win-win: Toyota gets to save some money, while appealing to the PETA types who refuse to line their car interiors with animal skin.

You drive while wearing a fedora? :p

What's better, an optional clock, or a standard clock positioned so you can't see it? :D

What Rich said. My wife has an 05 4x4 we got in May 08 with her buyback check from her 96 Tacoma. Needed windshield wipers the first year because she didn't listen to me and tried to unfreeze them herself continuing to flip the switch, and more recently the evap cannister. Other than that, just brakes/tires kind of stuff, presently almost 120K on it.

A good friend of mine would say his old seventh gen E100 Corolla with the 1.6L mated to the 3 speed automatic. 100 hp, 0-60 sometime this week, no overdrive gear, typically good for 25-28 mpg, very excessive cabin noise, hard-to-control rust, and the most useless headlights you've ever seen in an automobile.

so much hate for the old Tercels. Those things are fun as hell to drive and they go forever. I actually have a friend who buys old beat down tercels (there are a lot more than you would expect), cleans em up, makes em run good, and sells them again. he just fixed one up a few months ago with 450k miles. Doesnt make a whole lot of money but they are easy to find, fix, and sell as first vehicles, especially in a low income area.

but my vote goes to the Sienna. It should die

You've obviously never sat in the back of a sienna. It has freaking recliners, tv's, and an optional swagger wagon package. And on top of that it's decently quick and gets good mpg.

I never was around the Echo; but the Yaris, makes me wonder. Did Toyota actually build this thing?

Either felt or Panama, depending on the weather. I have 6 or 7.
Need something to keep the sun and cold off of my head, and I generally don't do ballcaps unless I'm crawling around under the car.

    LOL!
The '94 was both... the blank was really too low to see while driving.
My only complaint on the 2nd Gen is if the light in the cab is any brighter than "dusk" you can't read the clock.

    Echo was a North-America-Only model for '99 to '05 (sold less than 6,000 for '04 and '05)
It was always the Yaris overseas, though a hatchback was called the Vitz.
