I didn't even purchase from them, but you couldn't pay me to go back.

After my first car was totaled by a dumb minivan driver, I needed something cheap to hold me over until I could track down the STi I wanted. At the time I was looking for 89-95 4Runners/PickUps, but I was open to anything of interest. McGee Superstore had a 1999 Grand Cherokee listed for $1,999, so I thought why not and gave them a ring. The guy on the phone wasn't particularly interested when I asked about it and claimed it had "about 175K on it". Since I was looking for something for a few months, I decided to take a ride down anyways, so I let the salesman know I would be over in 45 minutes or so.

I get there and naturally the Jeep is nowhere to be found. The guy at the desk told me it sold "weeks ago" and "shouldn't be on the website". I was pretty peeved at this point when the guy behind the desk asked what I was looking for, so I told them 89-95 Pickup/4Runner. I watch him start the write down, and the second I give the year range he basically stopped and said he'd be in touch. I watched him throw the paper in the trash!

From what I remember they're famous for advertising all their cars on the major websites with the price reflecting a $2,000-5,000 downpayment or something like that, so they can undercut everyone.

How hard is it to do the LBJ's and UBJ's? Just rent a ball joint press type thing and press out the old and press in the new one?

Toyota told me I have to replace my entire lower control arm to do the ball joint. I think not!

That's pretty much it, press out the old, press in the new. Check your LCA bushings though. When you buy new LCAs, they come with new bushings and ball joints already assembled and ready to go (at least for the Tacomas they do, assuming the 4Runner is the same). You can rent the press from Autozone for free. Make sure you heat up the receiving part and keep the ball joints in the freezer until you're ready to press them in.

Thanks Mike! I think my bushings are shot too but I can't quite afford new lca's, plus I would rather have the MOOG greasable ball joints so they stay alive longer.

    Bookmarked the link!

Understandable. The bushings themselves are pretty pricey but there are other alternatives including a poly bushing set that not many people have tried out. The hidden gem with the LCA bushings though is the alignment hardware. If you have the same setup we have on the Tacomas, you could end up needing to cut the LCA bolts and that hardware is almost $100 on it's own. Also, careful with Moog stuff, I'm not sure about their ball joints but I was not impressed with their u-joints. I bought 3 of them, same part number and only 1 actually fit. To me, that just speaks volumes about their QA/QC.

Good luck with the swap

I have MOOG tie rods, inner and outer. The inners lasted me a month before I decided to long travel my truck and blew them out haha. I have replacements that I will swap in when I tear the suspension apart.

Why the hell are the bolts so pricey!? Mine are frozen anyway so I guess the best choice would be new LCA's with new bushings and ball joints, plus new hardware... Oh joy.

Might just settle with cheap LBJ's until I can afford new LCA's. I'll spring for a lifetime alignment too since I seem to have difficulty keeping my alignment in spec  :anonymous:

Moog makes a set of greasable LCA hardware, haven't tried them but BGR I believe got them so you can see how they're holding up.

Smiley's don't work me either (meaning I can't just click on them to insert them). If I type in the code for them, they work fine but I can't click on them anymore on my home computer. They still work on my work computer but that machine is running an older version of everything.
