Hey all, so I have my order in for my new rifle, went with a Savage 16 FCSS .308.

I am new to owning a rifle so I apologize if some of these questions are complete newb of me!

I am starting my 10 day waiting period today for it and already purchased a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm for it.

I would like to know what you all would recommend for scope bases and mounts?

What ammunition do you guys recommend for this for target and hunting? I have done research on ballistics but if anyone has direct experience with this rifle and different types of ammo that would be great!

What cleaning kit and solvents do you recommend?

I read on savages website they recommend doing a barrel breakin. Is this regular practice and how do you guys go about doing this?

    Thanks again for everything!!

Thats cool i'd love to have an FN .45 when i can get a handgun. I'll also be taking the Utah course as soon as i am of age. I'm left i dominant. Am right handed. Shoot long guns left handed and shoot pistols right handed.

I hear that. I'm about 5 months into my wait on my latest can. Probably another 5 to go. Need to find a good pistol host. Thinking either an HK45 or a Beretta 92A1. Not sure why though. I'll also get threaded barrels for my Glock & 1911.

Is it one time or a recurring thing? I was looking at cans at a gun show and I asked a out the stamp and one told me it was a one time and the other said it was yearly

$200 per stamp (which you need 1 stamp for every 1 NFA item you have)
When i turn 18 i'm gonna set up a NFA trust and start the paperwork so i can build a SBR (300 BLK) and a suppressor to go with it.

I believe to do NFA stuff you have to be 22 and not 18.

On the note of NFA though, I've been thinking (never a good thing), and I'd like to find out if anyone can answer a suppressor question.

Would a .45 acp supressor work to supress a .45 colt out of a tc contender or encore with a 16" barrel?

I'm already set up for reloading .45 colt, and have been debating a contender or encore (most likely contender) for primitive weapons season in louisana in .45 colt. I've already got a load that is a 300 grain jacketed soft point moving around 900 fps give or take (haven't put it on a chronograph yet)

But if it would work, it would be a fun deer rifle in Virginia with a can on it as well and possibly an SBR later on

As of earlier this year you have to be 21 to buy a SBR or suppressor, but 18 to build. (links are somewhere back in this or the AR thread)

Same bullet diameter on the 45 colt as the 45 ACP?
what are the muzzle pressure differences?

As far as the legality i dunno, when i send in my paperwork it'll be marked multi-cal

I think I'm gonna buy an FNS-9. I've been wanting one for a while because it's the only polymer, striker fired 9mm I don't have. Hickok45 just reviewed one and really liked it.

Best bet would be to talk to several suppressor makers and see what they say. You're talking about a bore that should be 0.452" vs the 0.451" of the 45 ACP, but you're also talking more gas. Most will tell you no, I would think. You could definitely build a 357 mag handirifle around a 45 ACP can, which would get the job done on whitetail just fine.

I forgot about that, been reading so much on this stuff that 21 is ingrained in my head lol

I believe the .357 mag would be super sonic while the .45 colt wouldn't be, though it would have quite a bit of extra gas coming out of it, though no where near a .454 or anything, I know a manufacturer and can ask him, but I figured I'd ask here first.
