I believe the Titan is being discontinued, but I have not heard that about the Frontier.

The brake assist is one of the first things I noticed as well and found it annoying too. However, 4 years later and I no longer give it a thought much. :D

Transmission braking. It would be nice for the towing days, but every time I go down hill the truck will downshift to reduce speed. I've also heard others say it has to do with keeping the RPMs down to save fuel, but I'm not sure I buy that explaination. :p

I can honestly say that the only issue I have with my 2006 SR5 4x4 DC is the cruise control. It works, but on freeway inclines it will downshift extremely abrubtly and if you were nodding off, you're awake now! The cruise control shifts are just NOT smooth. Consequently, I don't use it.

Meh I would want it selectable. I've never actually had a vehicle equipped with it. My dad's Dodge has an OVERDRIVE OFF switch which works pretty nicely as a simulated transmission braking - basically just cuts out the highest gear.

Upshifting would reduce RPMs, which in turn increases MPG.

I just traded in a Pathfinder last week for an '09 DC 4x4 Taco. I tell ya, I loved that Path because it was a '95, the least year they made a real good truck IMO. That thing could go through pretty much anything I threw at it but I still always felt that the Toyota's were a tier above in terms of trucks and offroading capabilities.

From '96 on, I feel Nissan has really redirected their focus to cars and SUV's, and eventually just to cars. That why it does not surprise me they are considering ax'ing the Titan. But do you blame them? Good quality, fuel-efficient cars is where the automotive industry is headed towards, not gas guzziling trucks. I just test drove the Frontier 2 weeks ago and felt it really lost its truck characteristics. It drove more like a strictly on-road friendly SUV, not what I was looking for.

Im originally from upstate NY and just recently my buddy was looking into buying a Titan but they would void any warranty if he put a plow on the front. Im not sure if Toyota would do the same, but all the American truck companies had no problem with a plow and said "that's what they are made for".

I just think we are starting to see a change in the auto industry and a lot of the foreign companies are choosing to focus on cars and let GM, Chrysler, and Ford own the truck market. Thankfully for us the Tacoma has one of the best reputations for compact trucks and Toyota would never get rid of that brand equity.:D

I was just looking at some dyno charts for the Tacoma 4.0 and the Frontier 4.0. I noticed that the Tacoma 4.0 had about 10 more rwhp than the Frontier engine at all rpm's up to about 4500 rpm's. It isn't until around 5000 rpm that the Frontier engine makes more power than the Tacoma.

Most people seldom exceed 5000 rpm's in their day-to-day driving so in "real power" terms, the Tacoma engine has more usable power than the Frontier by about 10 rwhp. Couple this with the fact that the Frontier is heavier and it's easy to see why the Tacoma feels quicker than the Frontier in most daily driving situations.

Shit, most people seldom exceed 3500 in their daily driving.

Paper is nice, but only two things really matter: The power at the rear wheels, and how high in the rev range it is.
