Most likely moving to Richmond Virginia

Well it looks like I am going to be moving to Richmond in the next couple of months. Hoping I could hear from some of the locals for tips on what area to live and info on laws and such for vehicle inspection, gun laws and other things.

Maybe even just to introduce myself as well. So any info you guys can offer, I am all ears!

hey hoss...great place to live. fairly affordable cost of living. plenty of god restaurants, shopping. There is always some music in town and the summer there are outdoor shows weekly. We do have RIR for NASCAR too.

the james river runs right through the city so there is plenty of kayaking, canoeing, fishin and just hanging out on the water.

Plenty of places to put a boat in as there are other rivers all right here.
90 miles from DC. 2 hours to Virginia Beach. 2 hours to the mountains.

VA vehicle inspections are easy. no emissions testing and it is cheap too. I

plenty of gun stores, ranges and this is the south too, so no issues with guns as far as owning them and buying them.

What he said! I lived in chester about 20 mins south of the heart of the city lots of suburbs don't have to go far to get away from the "city life".

Conceal carry permit is about as easy to get as you could ask for! A LOT of regular gun shows come through Richmond too.l

 

I have plenty of tools to do just about anything you want. I have a welder and know what i am doing so....there are some good places to wheel and camp within a two hour drive too. I-95 and I-64 run right through here, so it is stupid easy to get around.

the richmond area is big so you have a lot to choose from as far as where you want to live--price, demographic, atmosphere ( city, suburbs, country) and you still have all the conveniences of living in a major city with a slower place

 

that is all great info!! I believe we are going to be looking in either the powhatan area or the area outside of mechanicsville. trying to stay somewhat close to grocery stores but still be able to get a couple acres and not be bothered with subdivision living. still have to wait for the wife to find a job to decide which area we will look more closely at before we come to a final decision though. dont want to be on the exact opposite side of the city from here work, as mine is just about dead center of the city.

main thing i was worried about on the vehicle stuff was if it was gonna mess me up having my exhaust dumped, as i have never had to worry about vehicle inspections. Then the main thing with the gun law was pistol permit info. very easy to get a concealed permit in Alabama and wanted to check to make sure it was gonna be available at least up there.

Thank you guys both for all the info! may ask a few more questions closer to the move about locations... dont really want to wind up in a "bad" part of town, plus need to get the best value for the dollar on house as I am sadly not rich. (truck would be totally different if i was, lol)

 

I;ll steer your right. no bad part of town for you. When you know where ur wife will work i can help you find a place--at least give you some options.

Either way you will be close to civilization and grocery stores.

Thank you guys, Im gettin pretty excited about the moving possibility while at the same time somewhat scared out of my mind because there is so much to do in order to relocate a family.

Hopefully all will go well and once I get settled in we can meet up and have drinks if nothing else!
