    Hi Charlie
    Thanks for being concerned.
Been real busy with the snow storms back to back and the ice storm and my grandsons third birthday. :D .
I got real lucky. We had some ice but nothing like further north. Those people are in a bunch of hurt. Some will be left dark till next week. The main problem is the new storms are hindering the repairs. Even the snow is adding weight because the ice has more surface area and weight on the trees.

I know people up there with 4" of ice in their driveway from the storms.

The last ice storm we had around here was not as bad. Lost power for 3 days. Not that big a deal.

I'll see if I can find some pics of that.

Again I thank you for your concern. That's why I love this place

 Glad you're ok Mike. Sorry for the folks north of you. Hope they get power back sooner than later. Ice is the worst. We've had one bout of it this year; dodged the bullet when it was forecasted this past weekend. Got some nice snow instead.

And :woot: for grandson's BIG 3!

    Evening all:
Holy crap; 4" of ice, that has to be trouble. Wonder how they are doing up there in my old stomping grounds around Jackman.

I had posted that the guy that did my taxes for quite a few yrs. passed about 4 yrs. ago. His son did them the yr. after, but didn't want to do them after that because he has a full time job. Had to find someone new, looks like time to make another switch.

HA HA> NO STOP BUTTON; that would be too easy! :D

There seems to be a theme running for 2013 - gun related pens.

I think I posted a picture of some pens I got when I gave two old Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifle stocks to a guy who needed them for pens he was working on.

My sister sent me another interesting one for Christmas.

In this picture, the first of the pens from the Mosin Nagant stock wood are on the left.

In the center is one made with the MN stock wood and a 7.62X54r case.

On the right is the pen that my sister bought for me. This one is interesting in that the point is extended by pushing the "bolt" forward and locking it in place; then retracted by unlocking the bolt.

I thought I'd seen it all......

But, we had our annual holiday reception at our home Friday night and a friend, also into MILSURPS, handed me a package when he arrived.

Yes, the Mother of All Gun Pens!!!

This one was made from actual .50 cal rounds - a fired case and a pulled head that is drilled and then reinserted with a twist mechanism - you turn the bullet to open/close the pen.

My friend promised that the person who made it was working on others and that I'd soon be seeing an M2 Ball and a 5.56 version. [IMG]

Spent a good amount of time outside yesterday. Sunny and bright day. Had the truck washed. Would have rather done it in the driveway, but instead got in line at the carwash. Have not found a drive through wash that really does a good job. Changed the oil in the driveway after the wash. Today, really dark and gloomy, waiting for the arctic air to move in this evening. Will meet friends later for wings and a few beers. Steelers vs Cleveland Browns this afternoon. Have a good day All!

Pretty nasty storm you had. Even the sign looks like she's at 25%.
More for us tonight. Not much. Only like 3" but is going to go through the change from rain to sleet to ice to snow.
Sorry your ill. I had the flu shot and I've been fighting stuff for the past month.

Word has it for a north Easter next week also. To far right now but I'm sure it won't be a boat day...

    Afternoon all: :rain:
Mark, those look like some  pens!

Hey zapper; you rooting for the Browns?

:facepalm:Capt.: Those pics. look like my place after a storm. One thing I have managed to do is to get any trees away from the house that would damage it. Now the mess is only in the yard.

EAT SAUERKRAUT for flue symptoms. If nothing else, it will clean you out! I had posted about that before. They said that people that ate it, either didn't get the flue or it would be very mild! ??????

That reminds me, I've got the 4 last Cottonwoods to take down this Spring before they get much bigger. That's a devil tree if there ever was one!

Sauerkraut huh, hadn't heard that ... Sounds like a good excuse for BeerBrauts with sauerkraut though. ;) :hungry:

    Morning all:
Saw something interesting on the news yesterday.
Out in Seattle, one of the big tunnel boring rigs has hit something it can't bore through.
It can't go forward, and it can't back up because it lays the reinforced tunnel walls behind it.
It looks like they have to drill a shaft down to the front of it, to be able to see what caused the problem. They said that it could be a BIG rock!
I thought those things could go through anything!

Good morning everyone. Well, the hunting gods have not been good to me this bow season. Over Christmas, I was too busy (with family and grading final exam papers) to get out to the bush. That was unfortunate because we had a week of very mild weather (in the range of +4C). The season ends tomorrow so I thought I would spend some quality time in the bush with bow in hand during today and tomorrow. Got up very early this morning only to find that we will have bitterly cold weather for the next few days (-18C).:( So, I phoned my hunting buddy and we both agreed that our season is now over because after we park the trucks, we still have a 3-kilometre walk in fairly deep snow back in to our tree stands. That's just not comfortable in this cold. You perspire on the walk in and then slowly freeze to death after you climb into your tree stand and sit like a church mouse for several hours. Years ago, when I was deciding on a winter pastime, I flipped a coin between bowhunting and contact tiddly winks. Unfortunately, bowhunting won out. :D Oh well, now I have more time to get ready for next semester.
