    lol thanks for confirming, that's what I suspected, I guess it would be pretty obvious that it is her mom, as she would be her daughter's de facto interpreter. Which is awesome, some parents don't take the time to learn sign for their kids, pretty sad.

    It doesn't help that I'm in college and have almost no spending money haha. I picked up a parts bike for $70, with a running engine (haven't tried to start it in this weather, so I don't know), two good rims, gas tank, and solid frame.

    Pretty solid beasts, because it's old, there's almost no electric, (I even run it without a battery most of the time) so it's a great bike for me to learn how to tinker with. I'm too big for it, perhaps I can upgrade in a few years.

    That looks like a nice cooling system? is that part of the exhaust? (lol sorry, I know nothing about the newer bikes haha. what year/model do you have?)

    You DON'T have to use the clutch to shift? It seems to shift easier on this bike, and the friend who taught me is an older guy, who's been riding most of his life, over 20 years, so I guess now I'm confused? Or do you mean you just use the clutch when DOWNshifting? And what do you mean by "pinning" it?

    Just looked up the trailtech - wowie! I'd love one of those, kinda expensive at $125... I do need a new instrument cluster, the only thing that works is the "Neutral" light... They won't let me input a bike older than 2000 though. :( perhaps I could do some custom wiring, like Mark said, some simple LEDs? That would be pretty sick!

    is 12" LT or more midtravel? I mean, why doesn't my 4Runner take stuff into stride as easily? Or if it did, would that mean it would bounce too much, because it is way heavier than my dirtbike, as in, simple physics? (sorry for the dumb questions, this seems like a good place to have this kind of thing explained to me... haha)

    The cantilever stuff on those bikes are crazy! I can't even imagine what that setup would look like moving...

    Again, no using the clutch for shifting? Why not, I thought that was the point of the clutch?

    What he said is spot on. I'll add this, you can add a tach to any bike. Just tap into the positive wire going to the coil. It would require some sort of electronics to decipher the pulses and turn on an LED shift light though... Trailtech comes with instructions. Plus, it has a speedo that uses a magnetic pickup. They are pretty neat little units, but not cheap. If they don't offer one for your bike just get something close...it'll work.

    As far as shifting without a clutch...your buddy is just playing it safe...you will never see anyone use the clutch after they are off the line at any motorcycle race, unless it's the new guy at the back of the pack...watch bubba's clutch hand... The only time he touches the clutch lever is to feather it around tight corners.

    Mine actually has some purple in it. If you look in my engine bay, it's quite purple LOL

    It's a multi-personality color. Depends on the lighting but it can be purple, blue or silver.

    Haha it's true. And they only made this color for two years...I'm not sure why, I always get compliments on it.

    Kind of only one year if you want to get technical since they changed the name lol
