So I went into the garage to take out the garbage and heard this noise which I thought was coming from my old fridge.

However, I turned off the fridge and realized the sound was coming from the rear end of the truck  The truck's been sitting parked since about 5:30. It's now 11:30.

I don't know how long it was on before I noticed it, but I was on for at least 5min until it shut off by itself (video #2).

    http://youtu.be/FGg98VXY7gk

You'll probably need to turn up the sound.

It sounds like a motor or fan of some sort?? Emissions related??

I did do a quick search but didn't see anything....

    Cheers,

    Jay

Crazy, I literally just posted the same thing yesterday or the day before... But I thought it was my water heater in the garage and ended determining it was the truck after crawling around

I just had this happen to me the other morning. I too walked into the garage at 5:00 in the morning and heard this. I cycled the ignition on and off and that stopped it. I was very worried and posted in a thread about this "pump" noise. This seems to be a common occurance. I don't know how long mine was doing this also.
I think the dealer should warn Tacoma owners about this so we don't freak out.

Hmm. Never heard mine do that. Sound like the fuel pump priming to me.

That's what I thought it was, some type of pump.

It is some sort of fuel system depressurizing thing. Nothing to worry about. Have three toyotas that all do it within 5-8 hours of shutoff. Its normal. Its supposed to do it.

Open your fuel cap and the noise will go away. Normal.

Our 2012 Highlander does the same thing it sounds like a small compressor running sometime for a few minutes. It had me crawling underneath at first since the dealer had said they never heard of such a thing. As usual
