Like that. Didn't read the whole thing, but a build like that if you own the trailer already is ~$1k depending on materials.

 

Looks alright however poorly sealed. He used wood glue should have used west system and its hard to tell what he used grain wise. Unless its verticle cut fir. In a couple years that may delaminate or crack. It may be worth ponying up another 500$ for a real camper with a resale value.

 

It's a clever idea that gets you into a trailer for pretty cheap using a classic tear drop design. Several waterproofing steps could be added to make it water tight for not much more.

 

Totally. It would be awesome but it looks like it would need to be garage kept. I would be curious as to the lifetime he will get out of it before he gets some rot going on. That sink area will probably rot within 2 years depending on climate. I would seal it with a layer of epoxy. As it sits its going to become a sponge with the first paint chip.

Its a wicked cool idea for a budget its also a neat project. I have always preferred the tear drops over a popup.

 

This thread is great for making my Xmas wish list. Too bad I won't be getting 99% of it since I'm buying.

 

I would imagine he'd get a season or two before there were real problems. By season, I mean dry-no rain

ive got the rei credit card that pretty much triples your dividend ill get at least a $400 dividend (new down bag for me this spring) my first down bag, ive been on the same synthetic for near 15 years

we put everything on our rei card utilities, gas, food ect.. of course we pay it off monthly

 

another REI recommendation here. Great stuff and their warranty is awesome.

 

REI is great. But just know they recently changed their return policy to limit it to 1 year. Still an amazing return policy. No questions asked you can return it. used to be you could return 5 year old stuff but that was seriously just being taken advantage of. Knew people who would return well used gear.

 

I worked there for 1/2 a year after college in 2008. Someone returned a kayak purchased in 1994. Management gave them 2/3 of the cost since it was so old.

For what it's worth, the Tepui Kukenam and Howling Moon's Deluxe Roof Top Tent are pretty much the same.

It's worth looking at all of them. Oh, and BAMF is a reseller of the Tepui line as well.

How are they in bad weather, wind/rain?

I haven't had mine out in the rain yet and only in light to moderate wind. So far, very happy.

 

If you remember let me know how it does in anything heavy, I've been curious about them. Is there a full rain fly, any way to attach guylines?
