Does anybody have any idea how strong it is? I would like to go blazing down some trails with it locked but I am just not sure that it would break something.

    define trail.........

id assume high load "hopping" of the rear end on a packed trail isnt "good" (wheel hop under high load uphill on hard pack comes to mind), but u said "blazing" so I see flat and hauling ass?

are u worried its gunna explode if u do 50+ locked?
It wont.......thats just a safety precaution.

Right now I live in the desert in socal and I just ride the typical desert hilly trails. Like some spots pretty rough and rocky and steep uphill and just trails that you find in the desert

Can someone explain to me what exactly the rear end in a 2nd gen is? I have TRD offroad.

When it is in regular 2x4 is it limited slip or some sort of posi, with traction control? I tried the search couldnt find much.

Stupid 4x4 requires 4lo to lock. I will be attempting that bypass mod soon.

Pretty tough. The weak point is the ring gear, but I've been across Coyote Dry Lake (the one on the left past the tanks on the way to barstow) at triple digit speeds with the locker on. The thing to remember is when you are in the air stay off the gas.

The offroad model has an electronic controlled rear locker. When it's on, both rear wheels get equal power. When it's off, it's an open diff and one tire gets power. The traction control modulates the brakes to limit wheel spin when the locker is off.

Thanks bro, that helps. You think its good to put the locker on for general wheeling?

I turn mine on when it gets gnarly, but generally it's off. I leave it on if it's muddy or slick, but otherwise just use it when I need it.
